Is this "vanilla" Ultimate Doom? or optimized with high rez options?
I know it seems like a question that must have been answered already, but I looked through the threads and cannot find an exact answer. I do know that Ultimate Doom is somewhat an improvement over original Doom game. But as far as modern graphics concerned is this like zDoom, where various modern options are available, such as running the game at high framerates in high resolutions, or is this just original unmodded game.

Also, will it run ok in Windows Vista? or do I need some DOS box and stuff?

This is ultimate Doom with 0 modifications. Steam installs DOSbox for you and runs the original Ultimate Doom within it.

Ultimate Doom is the newest version of "Vanilla Doom" there is. Source ports that run Doom use this version as the default.

And yes it should run just fine in Windows Vista.

Awesome! THanks, this is exactly the version I want. I want the "original" versions of these old games.

The steam releases include vanilla 1.9 (which are standard amongst source ports). The BFG versions of doom and doom2, however, are slightly modified.

Can you please tell me where I get the BFG versions of doom games? or are they a part of Ultimate Doom when I buy it on Steam?

The "BFG versions" I mentioned are found in Doom 3: BFG Edition. These version of Doom and Doom2 are modified and play from within doom3bfg.exe. What you want is The Ultimate Doom, which you are currently in the forum for.
