Fixed: Mouse control in vanilla DOOM & DOOM II
Hi all, I just got Ultimate DOOM and DOOM II Steam versions today and immediately put together fixes for both of them to disable the mouse y-axis, making them control much more like modern shooters.

Also included are tweaked config files to deliver the correct 4:3 aspect ratio, slightly better pixel smoothing and some tweaks to enable more sound channels.

Download the fixes from my Dropbox, here..

Ultimate DOOM: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88806348/fixdoomst.zip
DOOM II: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88806348/fixdoom2st.zip

To install, just extract the appropriate zip file directly into your DOOM program folder. An easy way to find the folder is right-click the game in your Steam library, choose Properties, then click Browse Local Files... on the Local Files tab.

Feel free to check the files out with your virus and malware scanners - there's nothing sinister In there.

Enjoy! :D

PS: I also have similar fixes for Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny - see here. ;)

Hi! I am playing Ultimate Doom. Am I supposed to overwrite the files in the Doom folder when extracting? Because I did that and the mouse stoped working in game lol

Yes, you should overwrite the files. The fix disables the y-axis of the mouse and leaves the x-axis functioning, so you can look left & right without moving forward and back. Of course, that means the mouse won't move up and down in the menus, either. Instead, use the arrow keys.

You're welcome :)

Works great, thank you!! The original mouse control scheme made it nearly unplayable for me, so annoying trying to turn sideways and accidentally move forwards with the mouse.

Is there any way to make it go back to full screen, BTW?

No problems! DOSBox allows you to use Alt+Enter to swtich to and from fullscreen.

This is awesome ,you should stick this in a guide (if you already haven't) so it will stick around in a more permanent and accessible location. Thanks so much!

Awesome, thanks again! And I agree with 8bitGuru, this should be a guide. Very helpful actually, and would be nice to be in a permanent location such as a guide as mentioned earlier.
