The Ultimate DOOM

The Ultimate DOOM

Dosbox not working.
I bought The Ultimate DOOM a while ago and was working fine until recently. It started of as minor graphical glitches, which then changed to all the colours screwing up, now it just refuses to run and i getting "Dosbox Dos emulator has stopped working." Any tips?

Go to your \Steam\SteamApps\common\Ultimate Doom\base

Find the file ultimatem.conf (or ultimate.conf if you're playing with classic controls)

Open it with a notepad

Under [sdl] change output=source to output=ddraw. You can also try output=opengl if there's some problems with ddraw.

Remember to also set up correct aspect ratio under [render] aspect=true
That sorted it,thank!
My dual monitors were causing trouble. I changed "fulldouble" to "false" and it works fine.
thanks

That did the trick, thank you very much Lurpsukka!
output=opengl did the trick, which is totally beyond me because output=source is not what appeared originally in the games files after purchase and download. Can't believe a problem like this still persists -_- C'mon Id.

I'm having the same issue with the DOSBox not working. However, i attempted to try your fix, but i cant open the files you mentioned because they're .comf files and i cant open them with Wordpad. Any ideas?
where do you find this?
Where do u find the file
Just tried this fix - works brilliantly. Thanks
How do i get to steam/steamapps/common/ultimate doom thing

Also ZDoom/any sourceport is the best way to play DOOM.

Open File Explorer (or My Computer) and assuming you install Steam games to your C drive, click on:

Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Steam > Steamapps > Common > Ultimate Doom > base

If you're in the right place, you should see a list of icons as well as two folders: capture, and zmbv.

To edit the ultimate.conf file as above, right click on it. Click "Open with" and select Notepad. (you may need to click "More apps" to see Notepad)

Make the above changes and save, and you should be ready to play.
