It's a Descent like game, yes - 6DoF in enclosed spaces.
"Why?" "Because they wanted to"

Not a secret that Descent is an inspiration.

It reminded me of descent as well. Although, i can't even remember last time I played it. Probably during when I had windows 95 or 3.2 if I remember correctly. Also, music in the trailor seemed to fit as well.

Well there aren't that many games in 6DoF in enclosed spaces, at least on PC, I am sure there are a lot more on consoles.
So when something deos come out, it will be inevitably compared to Descent.
There is so many FPS games that no one calles them Doom clones for example *even if they are mostly clones of one another*

Why can easily be answered with "because nobody else is doing them". The last Descent game came out 14 years ago, the Wii port that was announced in 2007 or so seems to have been cancelled, considering Interplay haven't said a word about it since 2009, so obviously somebody else have to make the 6DOF FPSes.

There are even less on consoles, at least PC got Shattered Horizon back in 2010, the only thing consoles have had that are remotely similar was one Descent inspired level in Red Faction Armageddon and maybe Starhawk for PS3?

That's because they are really Castle Wolfenstein clones, but that doesn't quite as smooth.

Ever heard of a Diablo clone, Fenke? It's a misnomer... they're actually derived from D&D games. o3o So no, that isn't why.

The game definitely borrows quite liberally from Descent, but I'm not sure if that's much of a complaint. The last Descent game was released over a decade ago. At this point, a serious six-degree shooter hasn't been released for some time, so it makes to revist Descent when designing this kind of game.

No, I have never heard of Diablo clones. But you might take some comment more lightly.

I've never heard of or seen Descent before, but this game really reminds me of the Win95 game V.I.R.U.S.

I wonder if Retrovirus is inspired by it, or intended to be V.I.R.U.S.'s spiritual sequel...

One thing that would've been cool is if the devs of this game took some elements from V.I.R.U.S. and used whatever mp3's or other music files on your hardrive as background music that changed from place to place and showed your JPG's/BMP's/PNG's etc. as "paintings" on some walls. Dunno how hard it would be to implement those mechanics nowadays though.
