Third-Person View
Is there any way to change the view from first-person to third-person? The screenshots on the store page imply that Retrovirus can also work as a TPS, but so far, I haven't found any options to make the switch.

We experimented with a third person view, but it didn't work well with the vertical movement. Some of the screenshots are from multiplayer or the level editor (though all are rendered in engine with game assets).

Hmm...that's very disheartening to hear. I'm not overly fond of the first-person PoV in Retrovirus; personal preference, but I find it crowded at best and just plain disorienting at worst.

I guess you have to get used to it. 1st person has been the norm among most of these kinds of high movement games. Look back to all of the Descent games. Then there is Miner Wars 2081 which is also 1st person. If it has the option of 3rd person I have not found it yet. But I have played ALL of the Descent series and after playing a while you get used to it. There are ways to deal with the "Closed in" feeling and some of the later games give you quick turning options too. I am going to give this game a run and see how it plays. Maybe later on they will figure out a way to make 3rd person work for those who want to play that way.

The developers could always add it in an update or with a future DLC.. Never say never in these newer games. How about it ColdEquation? Is there a chance of more missions and features to add to the game through DLCs or future updates?

We are currently working towards releasing the tools, so players can start producing content and mod the game. I suppose a single player mod might even unlock third-person, if someone is determined to try it. Unfortunately, it won't work very well in some levels, which is why we scrapped it as an official option.

Hm...what exactly is the problem with third-person view? You mentioned vertical movement, but are there any specifics?

Mostly, the trouble come up when the player is close to the ceiling or navigating complex geometry. Nearly all third-person games have gravity and keep the player on the ground where the camera can comfortably follow slightly higher. But when the player can be anywhere, there isn't always a good place for the camera to be.

The latest Batman games are a good example. Despite being third-person for the majority of the time, they pull in to a first-person view when the player is navigating air vents, and that situation more closely resembles most levels in Retrovirus.

Ahh, I see. In that case, are there any mod tools that might modify camera angles in certain situations? Or perhaps something that might modify the transparency of objects?
