Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why do I own this game? I don't remember buying it!
A: When we released Serious Sam Revolution for Early Access, we gave owners of the Serious Sam Classic games on Steam a free copy of Serious Sam Revolution. Enjoy!

Q: Why can I not load old savegames or demos?
A: Since we do regular updates, old savegames and demos that were made in a different version of the game will not be possible to load or playback, unless you set a variable in the console. This is to avoid bugreports that are simply caused by super old savegames. Eventually we will fix this, but for the sake of Early Access we are simply invalidating every old savegame, and we hope you can understand.

If you're looking to get the achievements for finishing the game, we are very forgiving in this and let you just finish the last level instead of playing through the entire game to get this achievement. Simply click on Single Player -> Custom Level and continue where you left off.

Q: Why did my controls suddenly get reset?
A: Updates sometimes need to have some control scheme updates (such as new controls, changed controls, etc.) To be able to do these easily (especially during Early Access Beta phase) we'll be resetting everyone's control schemes with updates if we really have to. We try not to, but this is a necessary evil while we are in Early Access, and again: we hope you can understand.

Q: My game crashed! How do I report this?
A: The easiest for us is if you report this at our bugreporter[ap.samrev.com]. After you write a bug report there, you can go into the comments of your report and upload the mdmp, rpt and log files there. You can find the mentioned files in the following locations:
  • Log file: D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Serious Sam Revolution\SeriousSam.log
  • Rpt file: D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Serious Sam Revolution\Bin\SeriousSam.rpt
  • Mdmp file: D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Serious Sam Revolution\Bin\serioussam_xxxx_crash_xxxx_x_...mdmp

Q: Can I play with a Dualshock 4 controller?
A: Yes! Check out this thread.

Q: I get a "Steam Error X", what do I do?
A: Unfortunately, we can't answer this accurately since Valve does not disclose what these error numbers actually mean. We do have a couple workarounds that usually work, including some common errors and specific fixes:
  • Error code 10: Steam servers are busy. Please try again later.
  • Error code 16: Network timeout. Please wait a few minutes and then try launching the game once more. If the issue persists, please complete this guide.
  • Error code 20: Steam servers are unreachable. This may mean Steam is experiencing technical difficulties. Here's a useful site to check[steamstat.us] if their servers are operational.
  • Error code 35: Please ensure that the required ports for Steam are open.
  • Error code 51: see this support page
  • Error code 53: IOLO System Mechanic Professional and F-Prot Antivirus are known to interfere with Steam and cause this error. Please also try following the suggestions in this article.
  • Error code 55: This can occur on computers with Avast installed. You will need to configure Avast to ignore Steam itself and all Steam game files. Some users have had to uninstall Avast to resolve the issue. This may also indicate a Steam Service failure. Please try enabling or restarting the Steam Service in Windows.
  • Error code 80: Try restarting your computer.
  • Error code 83: see this support page
If none of the above work, you have a couple other things to try, which includes verifying the game cache. You can do this by right clicking the game, clicking properties, then going in the Content tab and clicking the "Verify integrity of game cache" button. If that doesn't work, contact Steam support.

Q: How do I install the dedicated server?
A: You can get the dedicated server under Steam Tools, or by running SteamCMD like this:
SteamCMD.exe +login anonymous +app_update 299310 +quit
More info on SteamCMD can be found here.

Q: Why do I get a "Cannot set display mode" error?
A: This means that the game was unable to create an OpenGL context for your graphics card. That usually concludes that your video card drivers are not set up correctly. In the case of AMD (ATI) cards on Windows 7 (and under), the solution has been to use a different driver version: 10.7 Beta[downloads.guru3d.com]. It seems to be a small subset of old ATI cards that have this problem. If that doesn't fix it, please let us know so we can try some other things.

Yes, it's on our todo list. (Which is also stated on the store page description, by the way.)

Networking is completely via Steamworks - which means if you play with somebody in the same LAN as you, your router will route the p2p packets directly within your network.

Short story: Yes, but via Steam.

So that i will need internet anyway, ok :(
It would be awesome play deathmatch all in the same pc without internet
Anyway good job, this is a great work and i will recomend it to all my friends :)
For some reason, the game runs in open GL. hwo do i change this?
Miss FPV Oct 11, 2014 @ 12:31pm
You can't. We've chosen for exclusively supporting OpenGL to make our lifes easier when doing graphics development. Any reason why this would be a problem for you, DoomGuy2014?
Well, it plays well. But it is just annoying seeing things about 4 or so feet in front of you (not to sound mean or angry) that are blurry and texturless... this is why i never play hexen 2. Will this be fixed on the final release?

It is really, really annoying to lose all my save games. Now I have to start over again. Won't be playing Revolution for fear of losing my progress every update.

This shouldn't happen due to the fact that the game is running OpenGL, you might want to check your graphics settings, and additionally the settings in your graphics card drivers for OpenGL (if it doesn't happen on D3D games)

We were talking about different things, I was asking if is it possible to play ctf deatmatch etc in slipscreen, I finally finished downloading the game and it´s possible, with that im sure that this is the best buy I made in steam :-)
Well, there ARE textures, just hard to see. i have every single graphic settings on max. But anyways is it going to be opengl ONLY in the final release?

Yes, so far we haven't gotten any (valid) complaints as to why Direct3D would be required by anyone. The problem you see with textures is probably due to some misconfugration in your driver settings, you should double check that.
Hi.

Do everyone still get this for free (if they have both classics)?

I have "Serious Sam Complete October 2012" (I don't know if that's when the package was created or when I bought it), I doubt it as gift because I missed the bundle I really wanted to have purchase with it cheaper so just in case I would have multiple copies / depending on how I would redeem it ...

I also later bought the Devolver IndieVision full bundle if that was the one who had it.

Will redeeming either of these give me revolution? Or did I miss it because I hadn't added the game already to my library?

That is, do everyone who have the old ones still get this one too automatically or was that a one time thing? And if so if I bought my copy earlier will I still have it?

Thank you.

I've bought the game twice damnit! ;D`

I kinda want to know which one I should add to my account or whatever it doesn't matter.
