Am I just bad at this game ?
I've been playing for around 40 minutes and I simply cannot do a nice run. I'm too slow to find matches when I can get some, and I seem to never get the ones I want... I know there is some RNG and all, but my poor scores make me think I will never progress, at this rate. :(

( already got the 4 first shops unlocked and the exp one upgraded, doesn't help a lot ! )

Would you seasoned players have any tips for me ?

It will become easier once you have unlocked some of the potions.

I played this through on the iPad and it it just takes some time. That's part of the fun. It takes time to slowly upgrade and you get a little better each time. Some runs go very quick and you don't seem to progress much, but then you will get a nice long one, make some records and be like "Yeah! Take that!".
And yes, when you unlock potions, you can start doing runs focusing on what you need most, like trying to get xp, or materials, so you can advance specific shops.

one of the tips i read was that a bad move was better than no move at all.
helped me a lot to try something instead of panic and become 'combo blind'

Honestly, my best runs in the beginning have been those where I completely ignore whatever's happening to the guy during his run, and just focus on making as many matches of any kind as possible. Once I noticed an item being wasted (dropping straight down through the tile grid) I would quickly use all the items in my backpack at once and go back to making matches.

Later on, once you upgrade armor you'll find that you have much more time to "choose" your moves based on what's happening to the character. Sometimes a specific move (e.g., making a magic attack) won't be possible until you waste a couple of actions (e.g., removing lots of key tiles) - that's the nature of the game with such a high variety of tiles and the size of the tile grid.

My main problem is indeed the time I take to make choices. I'll focus on upgrading armor asap ! Thanks to you all for the tips, really appreciated. :)

This game takes a massive amount of replays to get what you need, Im at the point where I just did a decent 3-dragon run as a Questor and it took me 30-40 runs until I was upgraded enough to put up a decent fight for the first dragon.

Chance also has a play in it, but as you hone your skills youll start paying attention to more then a 3x3 area at a time.

Also, always try to keep chests, stone and wood out of your puzzle, Ive lost many fights because I simply didnt have many staves or swords because I had rocks all over the place...lol

Since I have been playing this game for hour's. I have an opinion. You should first put your main at upgrading your character to max. In that way you won't be so hard in directing the character to the upper level. After you gain all max in character that would be easy to score a highscore and gain achievement. You should first think about the character. Well, I got hero in 9 hour's of playing.

The trick is to use items effectivly, and take your time. If your at a chest that you can't open because there arent many keys, match something that isn't keys so more tiles will drop. Maybe you will get lucky and more keys will drop. But you can also use a master key /key scroll if you really want to get past it. Also when it comes to upgrading things, I think that the weapons and sheild is more important then the armor. Also another thing that is good to remember is that some monsters take more damage from certain things. Like ninjas take more damage from swords. You just have to experiment a little bit, and once you unlock potions it will be more easy to get stone gold and wood and score and al that stuff. This game is hard, but once you get it, it's so much less hard.

It's hard sometimes for the drops to come your way.I hate having only keys when I need to kill an armored knight

Beat the game today (finally). 4 bits of advice:
  • Dont pay much attention to the top of the screen. 99% of your time should be on matching.
  • You MUST have all items maxed out to get even close to the 10000000.
  • Keep matching shields to keep defence up. Combat matches were easier for me doing this.
  • Potions used: just the potion of invulnerability.
