Suggestion for new players...
I didn't realize this at first but the game comes with a move guide that was never in the original game. Make sure to disable it. Also, no need to play at the easy skill level. It changes a few of the sequences and actually detracts from the game.
As far as I'm concerned, neither of those should have been included.
Anyways, just my thoughts for ultimate enjoyment of this classic.

Thank you - That explains the difficulty settings and why I was like why are these prompts on screen. Disabled and played in hard mode, got killed in every scene. Just like I remember in the arcade, classic :D

Someone sticky this on top, please.

That explains the difference between easy and hard. What is the difference between Home and Arcade?

And i fully agree. Play it like i remembered it from it's overpriced coin guzzling arcade game times or not at all.

So dieing 10,000 times is fun? I want to see the adventure and watch the story unfold. Watching the exact same Dirk Bones 10000 times gets boring. I'm not a purist so adding the prompts makes for a more casual and fun experience for me. I never finished the arcade version myself though watched many people try and fail while dropping quarter after quarter into the slot. I'm not a twitch gamer, in fact I found Pac Man and Galaga in the arcade difficult. So this version is perfect and hope Space Ace and DL 2 will have the same options.

The original arcade version only gave you 3 lives and not 5 like this version.

Have you played the 1080p version on the PS3 blu-ray? What are your thoughts on that version vs steam?

Maybe, but three posts below there's a guy ranting about paying for a game which lasted 25 minutes... because of the hints. And he's right (at least partially). The game is as is. Don't want to learn every move? don't try it.

I recall a selecting screen at the start to pick the number of lives depending on the coins inserted.

Dont own a PS3 or an Xbox. Just a PC gamer. But 1080p would look nice and visually would be fun to look at.

My menu doesn't have options for easy v. hard or arcade v. home.
How do you change them?
LT Jeff Jul 31, 2013 @ 8:41am
You'll see them after you click "play game"

It depends on how the arcade owners set the machine. When I played it was 50 cents, and 5 lives. The cabinet owners could set it for 25c, 50c, even a buck if they wanted. Most arcade machines were like that, after the popularity died down, they'd set it so you could play for fewer quarters, with more lives... to compete with the new titles, and get a few quarters from the really young kids who couldn't drop 50c or a buck for the 45 seconds of play that their little hands would get them.

45 seconds...so true
