Needs achievements.
Ever since achievements invaded video games I need to be motivated by feeling a unjustified sense of accomplishment over the tasks that I do. While this software would be helpful to myself and others without the lack of achievements I am surely not going to buy it and head myself into financial doom. With achievements not only can I buy this but it would help me balance my money.

Please add achievements so that I may feel validation to my life. Here are some ideas.

Banking, good investing, tax paying, net growth, hitting X amount of banked cash achievements,. With the ultimate achievement of gaining a net worth putting the user into the top 1%. Now thats a achievement I would strive for!

We've talked about putting achievements in, and it might happen in the future, but not for a while, I'm afraid :(

If this gets implemented, it needs a way to be disabled.

I think achevements would be difficult. Imean, lets say that there is a "You're worth $1,000,000!!!" achevement. Well, I could type in a psudo $1,000,000 transaction. Then Steam will give me the achevement (and probibly stop showing me the Steam sales :P.) The only viable achevements I can think of offhand would be "24 hours of budgeting" or "Add 1,000 transactions."

While amusing, I think achievments would really serve no purpose whatsoever in YNAB. On an unrelated note, I've been using this software for just over a month now, and it's quite literally the best I've used, and I've used MINT, Excel, Quicken, Microsoft Money, and my Bank. Well worth the price, if you ask me. In 30 days I've put 500 in savings, and that doesn't even count the categories that I didn't spend the full monthly budget in.

Manhim - they would definitely be something you could ignore (if we added them, which is only a "maybe" at this point). FTWister is right about them being easy to game, but then you'd only be cheating yourself... ;)

We don't want to just throw them in, but if we can find a way of making them useful to motivate people in their budgeting, we'll add them.

At first I joked that this should have achievements, but then when I though about it, I thought why not?

The crowd here are gamers and if gamifying helps some people to save money, that's not a bad thing. I mean, I think for me if I could see some sort of symbolic representation of goals I have met and goals I am close to meeting I actually do think that would be helpful and motivating.

Motoki - We've definitely considered it, and it may happen in the future. We've still got other features we're working on for now though!

Steam achievements = nothing! GFWL or GTFO!

I'm not touching GFWL with a 10-foot pole ;)

I want an achievement where the software tells me when I cannot afford to put a game on my credit card and if I do not purchase the game in 30 days I unlock an achievement.

That would be nice, but it could be a bit tricky to add in without also shipping a person to walk along next to you and check you didn't purchase any games ;)
