www.youneedabudget.com/support discusses installations on multiple machines. If I buy this software on STEAM, will my signifigant other be able to install it as well, under her own steam account? I'm concerned that if I purchase this via STEAM, under my account, that we will not be able to sync and/or not be able to "share" the software, as it is intended across multiple machines.

You won't be able to install in under Steam on the other account (we can't do that in Steam), however if you log in via your account on her machine, and install it there, then make a shortcut to it on the desktop, that should work just fine after she logs back in as herself - it won't launch from Steam, but she'll be able to access it (we made sure you could run it without Steam logged in for this very reason).

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the quick reply, RodeoClown!

If I decide to purchase this software, I will surely let you know how it goes...

Thanks for your help.

Another quick question/s...

I was speaking with a friend familiar (about 1 year ago) with this software, and he was telling me that it was Excel based, meaning you need Excel in order to get full functionality. Is this still the case?

Also, does this software have the capacity to be queried by SQL?

I apologize if this is not the correct place to ask these types of questions. This is a new realm for STEAM.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Einy,
It's probably better to start another discussion, rather than following on this one, but I'll answer here for now :)

The original YNAB was an Excel spreadsheet. Now it has nothing to do with excel (except that you can export CSV files Excel can read).

We don't have the ability to do queries via sql - we have a built in search, and you can use that to slice and dice the transaction lists, or you can use the built-in reports and filters. You can export the results of the searches and reports if you want to dig deeper into them with some other program.

Thanks, RC.

I appreciate your helpfulness and quick responses.

I'll make sure to start a new topic if I have further inquiries.

P.S.
You're doing a fine job of controlling the trolls. I leave you with a quote from Mark Twain:

“Do not argue with an idiot they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.”

Thanks again.

What currensy can I use? is it only dollar in ynab? I am from sweden and wonder if I can use the Kr (Swedish Krona)? Maybe it does'nt matter, but It can be confusing. I havent bought the programme but I am interested.

We've got pretty much all the currencies in there, but you can only use one per budget (so you can have a dollar budget and a Krona budget, but can't mix the two in the one budget).

I've been using YNAB almost a year now, and it works great for Swedish Krona.

I'm just wondering... and hopefully the Dev will answer honestly.. lol If we purchase the program, are these classes I see mentioned free with the purchase? Are there any other fees that are needed (or optional) to get more out of the program? I just downloaded the Demo. I'm going to check it out.
RodeoClown  [sviluppatore] 1 gen, ore 14:26
Nope, the classes are free even without purchasing the software. No other fees at this stage (if we ever introduced Direct-connect to banks, that might be an extra fee, but we aren't working on that right now). All updates with the same major version number (4) are free. If we release a YNAB 5, that would cost again, but we've always done a discount for existing customers.

Cheers,
-Ian
