Swapping rigs with my driver
Can I swap trucks with my driver. I just bought my first truck, a Volvo FH16. Next I'd like to upgrade my garage and add a driver or two. The recommendation I've seen regarding trucks for your drivers is to just buy them whatever is cheapest. However I was thinking that if I can swap back and forth with my drivers I'd buy at least one upgraded Scania, and I trade off between the Volvo and the Scania.

That's possible. The way you do it: Company Manager -> Truck Manager -> Pick the truck you want to drive from the list and click on "Drive it".

pick driver that is idle, or your will have to pay a fee for the switch.

I would buy a new garage instead upgrading existing one, depending on the garage it could be cheaper but also you get the advantage on "quick traveling" and I have also the feeling in later game it might be easier to find jobs for your drivers, if they are spread on the map instead all needing a job in the same city. (You drivers always search for jobs in thier home or going to their home.)

In that order, so you know. They look for a job to take and when they get there they look for one that will bring them back, then they take time off and repeat. If they cannot find a job that returns them they'll come back empty forcing you to pay the fuel and wear-and-tear on the truck with no income. Though in my experience drivers with any kind of training will almost never have that happen.

Well, it is a "starter issue", drivers do not have any long distrance skills or other skills so it can happen, the more skills they get, the less it happens. But anyway, since buying new garage is cheaper than expanding, it felt like a logical thing to me.

That was my philosophy after my first garage. I did expand my first location before buying a new garage, but I think of there like my "headquarters." Figured it should be the big location.

Hehe, my home garage has still one slot only, I keep it that way so I do not "cheat" the statistics of the garages because the profit is so much higher than on the others.

Expanding a garage only costs $EU100,000 compared to $EU180,000 for a new garage. You only get two extra slots for the upgrade but you also get a re-fuel station which makes the upgrade strategically more worthwhile. Quick-travelling is novel for sure but... not actually worth anything.

The fuel saving from the upgrade is pretty significant over the longer term so it's worthwhile upgrading once you have a decent strategic garage layout on the map.

Unless this has changed recently then this is not actually true... you won't be given any penalty for the swap, what happens is that the delivery pending with that driver is completed (time is warped forward to that point) before the swap takes place.
