Hmm so you cut co-op
Edit: The game looks excellent, but I do wish there was coop. My understanding was it was in the initial feature list, but I may have been drunk when I voted for it.

Regardless, the game looks excellent, has some unique mechanics and style. I am disappointed by the lack of coop, but perhaps like Orcs Must Die 2, we will get a coop followup.

We never said it was going to be added. That quote is even mine.

This is a copy paste quote by me on our offical forum from before we were ever on greenlight:

For the moment, the game is only single player. You choose one of the two O'Carrol brothers at the start of the game. The main difference between the two is the difficulty setting and a few changes in the story. Playing as Jos is normal mode, while playing as Jack is hard mode. We've always seen Sang-Froid as a co-op game, but we wanted to provide a rich single player experience first, and then we plan on adding the co-op further down the line.

Hilariously, I posted the same quote. What I read from that is that you plan on adding co-op. Not that you have cut coop from the feature list and plan to do a multiplayer sequel.

Anyway, comme un autre canadien, j'espere que votre jeu trouve de success dans Steam. I wanted a coop game; I'm just not likely to play a SP game much, too much in the back catalog and too little time. It looks great as a SP tower defense game, and has nice art and interesting mechanics; I just think 2-player coop would have more than quadrupuled your sales, frankly.

Here's hoping for a multiplayer followup ;)

Futher down the line means a sequel... The very first line says the game is only single player.

Yeah I laughed as well. And yes here's hoping :D

I'm really not sure about that. Would it have more appeal? Sure. But 4x more sales? I find that very hard to believe.

I could be completely wrong about this, but I think a strong proportion of gamers (who maybe aren't as vocal on the forums) still like to play single-player games. There's something to be said about moving at your own pace, being able to pause when you want, etc. This is especially true for... adult gamers (like myself) who don't necessarily have a lot of time to play games, so finding a friend who has the same schedule/interest gets difficult.

While I agree that a co-op mode would be cool, I don't think it takes much away from this game.

IMHO, of course.

I agree, but believe that there is no downside to having a coop option alongside the singleplayer. Also, I don't think it is a stretch to say that games you can play with friends sell an order of magnitude better than single player only games, unless an AAA title like Tomb Raider.
Terraria for example as single player game would go nowhere. This, though, is more like Orcs Must Die. I can wait for the MP sequel.

I will pick the game up eventually for single player but co-op would have made it a day one purchase.

But here are two very important distinctions that smaller developers (and even some large devs) seem to miss.

1. It has to be a full Co-Op campaign. I have absolutely no interest in any sort of horde or versus modes.
2. It has to be ONLINE Co-op. Local co-op is pretty much pointless for the vast majority of computer users.

In complete agreeance, I will purchase it eventually if I remember it along with other games, but co-op campaigns always catch my eye because I can run through them with mates or my girlfriend who is new to gaming may want to try it with me and I can't tell you how unfun it is to say things like oh I would... but we can't play together.

TL;DR

I pick up games that don't hinder my relationships :P

English must not be Duomtl first language. The first sentence of his post says, "For the moment, the game is only single player." The last sentence of his post says, "We've always seen Sang-Froid as a co-op game, but we wanted to provide a rich single player experience first, and then we plan on adding the co-op further down the line." Regardless of what he meant, those sentences clearly imply the current game is single player but will be co-op in the future. Those sentences do not imply the current game will only be single player and the games sequel will be co-op.

no english is not his first language....he speaks weasel words fluently

Heh I have to say I do not get the impression it will be only ever be a single player game from reading those lines either, I get 'Initially single player, then co op later' IE: a patch. I'm on the fence, but it does look unique and seems to be getting some pretty good reviews :) I do love co op though. It's been catching on a lot lately on the pc scene for good reason.

No co-op means I wont be buying any copies of this game, otherwise you would have had 2 definite sales.

I already have games like borderlands 2, dungeon defenders, terraria, etc which I enjoy mainly in co-op mode playing with my nephew. This game would have been a nice addition to that list and looked to me like a perfect candidate for co-op play.

As others have said the original quote was misleading and the main reason I upvoted on greenlight was for eventual co-op play.

Guess you better start working on a sequel then...
drbluez Apr 6, 2013 @ 7:26am
Yeah, like already said. With coop it would have been a first-day-buy, there are too many singleplayer games in my steam list I have to play yet.

Sounds to me more like you made people believe that it would be patched in at some stage. Actually just came to see what people had to say about the game as I really like the scenario of the game itself. Maybe you should have been more clear about this as it leaves a bad taste.

I don't think that is fair at all. This is not War Z, it is a proper, innovative, interesting looking game with a unique theme. I just really, really wish there was coop.

Cut the developer some slack; I certainly hope they succeed as the game, from everything I have seen, is quite excellent, and I want the title to be successful enough for a sequel.
