Kinetic Void started off as a really good idea for a game. 100% open world, pure 'do-as-you-wish' ship construction and exploration.
That's about all the good I can say about it.
The dev team was really small, inexperienced, and although they were pretty active in the community and media, the game itself fell short by many expectations. There are still a lot of bugs, no actual tutorial, ship building in itself is pretty complicated, and the game overall is not really well optimized.
When it boiled down to release I started to regret my purchase as despite the fact it's no longer Early Access, the game itself still feels largely incomplete. Buggy, no tutorial whatsoever, still not well optimized to run, and the ship building, although the interface is better, it still is really complicated a workflow overall. Not even the missions would work correctly. Which was a pain.
Of course, having already purchased this game I decided to cling on and hope for the best, but then suddenly, the game went quiet on all mediums: forum, update schedule, and youtube.
The entire dev team dropped out of the KV project, pretty much leaving only 2 behind. While it's more of a lack of interest than a 'take money and run' scheme (funds went to dev salaries), the 2 developers that DID stay behind, as much as I'd like to applaud them, can't do much either, not when they are also trying to work on a side project to make ends meet.
I bought the game with high hopes that were never repaid. If you're here looking for a space sandbox, there are other, much better games that haven't been abandoned and left to rot in the pits of Steam. Don't buy this. It was never worth the $20, and never will be.
