Despite the negative reviews I decided it looked like the kind of game I would really enjoy... To be honest, I can't tell you if I enjoy the game or not, since I can't get past just how counter intuitive the ship building interface is. All I want to do is mirror a damn part. You have the tool, you click it, and as for mirroring? lets see, if by some miracle you do manage to get them to mirror.... they will be offset on the z axis, so they just wont align, and can you switch between the parts to do fine adjustment, nope, that button doesn't seem to do a damn thing. Either it's just not meant to do that, or whatever, but that's what I would think it would do... Dear devolopers, have you ever used any 3d modeling software? do you have any idea what 'mirror' means? I have spent the last hour since downloading it, trying to make a mirror image of a hull part. that's all I want to do. As it is, I'm going to just slap a bunch of parts together, throw some engines on it and call it good. I really hope that the actual game play isn't as counter intuitive as the ship building interface. Save your money folks, even on sale it isn't worth what I paid for it. Games are supposed to be fun, relaxing, enjoyable. Not vexing to the point of making any possible enjoyment moot.
Update: After another 3 hours of messing with the ship designer, I figured out a few tricks to actually make the parts line up as a mirror image of eachother, but naturally, it is not how you'd think you'd be able to pull it off. Anyways made the ship, launched, got a mission message, and it was very vague.
Managed to mine the required materials, and now I have no idea where to take them...
Suggestion for the developer, go play Freelancer. Compare what you attempted to do with the 'freelance' mode of the game. get a mission, it tells you where to go, add a module, it shows what it does, how it affects everything.
The KV interface is crap. It's a nice idea, but there's too much of the wrong information, and not enough of the right information. Buttons get hidden, the touch location changes, little bugs, that are obnoxious.
It's nice that it's an open sandbox, and you get to choose where you get to go and when you go there, but what's the point if the game expects you to guess where you're suppoed to go to?
Save your money, and your frustration.
