Free-fire for fixed guns?
Soooo... I was bored earlier, and decided to troll the Steam Store for games. Lo and Behold, when I open the store, I find this beautiful gem of a game. Needless to say, I wanted it. Badly.

I'm planning on purchasing it really soon, and have been forum lurking all day, learning the Ins and Outs of the game, drooling over the content like Christmas came early.

One of the first things I plan on building is a fighter craft (Baby Steps). The primary armament would be fixed position guns (Who ever heard of turrets on a fighter? A gunship, maybe, but a fighter? C'mon now.), and maybe a warhead launcher.

My main question is simply this: Do you HAVE to get a lock on an enemy craft in order to fire a fixed position weapon system? Or are there even any fixed guns at all?

Alexei:
We have 2 options for firing, you can have autofire by pressing 1 (or assigning weapons to other # keys and they'll autofire if you're locked onto a target), or you can press X and then you get the old-school manual crosshair that you can fire at will by left clicking with your mouse. Regarding a fixed gun, all of our weapons have a traverse arc available to them, although some are going to be less than others.

So in short, you don't HAVE to lock onto an enemy to fire and there are not fixed guns anymore.

Thank you for the help, Kaypix. While I'm a little disappointed by the lack of fixed weapons emplacements, it doesn't dampen my anticipation of purchasing this title.

Maybe the development team could reintroduce them in a later patch?

Perhaps turrets could be available in larger sizes and fixed guns in size 1? This would give turrets to any ship of moderate size.

That's actually not a bad idea.

Morning guys, unfortunately at this point we're focusing on the turreted style weapon as opposed to the fixed guns (since fixed guns wouldn't fire unless you had a straight shot of the enemy and already calculated the lead distance needed). If anyone remembers from the days of fixed cannons (before we got the option of turrets) they'd vouch for me, it was brutal to have them out :(

Maybe u can make something between fixed guns and turrets. Turrets have 180 degrees and the "fixed" gun could have 20 degrees up and down or something like that. Personaly i prefer turrets because i love big ships but for fighters it would be some good idea.
