SOURCE OF PROBLEM FOUND - No ships in load drop-down list
Temporary solution
You cannot have a folder with ships inside the ships folder.
So to fix it, you just need to move the folder out, and you're good to go :)

Original post

Decided to check on the game to see how far it has come after some time, so I don't know when this bug was introduced (in other words, this issue wasn't there before).

Problem

Unable to load any ships. Pressing the load icon comes up with an empty list. Newly saved ships doesn't show up either. Able to 'load' starting ships in the 'Starter' folder. Bug is on both newly created creative- and non-creative worlds.

Checked save location, new ships appears to be saved in correct location(saving seems to work correctly).
Checked to see if load location was accidentally hardcoded by creating a symbolic link leading to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\%Steam ID%\227160\remote", still didn't work, so I'll assume it's not hardcoded and therefore another problem.

Steam client's checking for missing files did not solve problem nor did reinstall.

System
  • Mobile PC (1,5-2 years old)
  • Intel i7 2670QM
  • 4GB DRAM (horribly slow)
  • Nvidia 610m (barely able to run the game)

  • Windows 7 64(bit)
  • No anti-malware conflicting with Kinetic Void
  • Kinetic Void is ran with no UAC restrictions

  • D:\Steam (steam install directory)
  • C:\ (OS directory)

Frozhax -

Can you by chance email me your output.log file that would be in the Kinetic Void install folder in the Sub folder KineticVoid_Data? If so send it over to Kris@badland.com I'll take a look and see if there is some way of getting you back up and running quickly.

I've looked at the log myself and located the source of the problem:

Long time ago the game used to crash a lot, so I made a folder called backup(in the ships folder) in which I would have it create automatic backups.
However, some update has apparently caused it to recurse through the folder and also check its contents. Which caused...

...it to, I think, include the folder name in the name of the ship 'backup\bysarth.ship'. Which then caused this error...

I've sent you the log now. Good luck with the fix :)

btw, a little off topic, but what does the '(shipName): 0' mean? I'm quite confused now to where it saves the ships :/

Yeah that may very well be the problem if you move the backup folder out and restart the game, and make a new galaxy does it still cause issues?

Regarding the shipname: 0 its a debug log that Matt uses for some calculation just a back end system that we needed to see the values on so we debug logged it. Doesn't really apply to loading the ship at all.

So far there has been no problems. I also didn't even need to create a new galaxy :)
