Is it even possible to travel to a new solar system?
I want to be able to do this without instantaneously jumping to it and ruining the "realism" of the gameplay. However, I aimed my ship towards what seemed to be another solar system (one of the brighter dots in the distance) and activated micro warp. I left it alone for quite a while (enough to where my previous solar system's sun became one of those bright white dots) and never found anything else.

Is it possible to travel to other solar systems in this way? Or do you have to use the "insta-jump" feature?

I'm not sure inter-sector travel is possible, but it would definitely take a long time.

The current sector jump is just mecahnical though, due to the alpha state of the game. They should be adding a transistion of some kind eventually.

Would like to get an official confirmation on whether or not it is, but thanks for your response.

I know that Limit Theory currently has this system of of gates to transport you ultra long distances. That would be neat. Or some kind of technology that takes advantage of theoretical worm hole "space-pinching" technology. Like worm hole stations in each (or selective...?) solar system.

It's possible they'll build a system of gates like that, but at least part of jumping is related to the Jump Engine subsystem, I believe. Perhaps it will be that you can use gates for ships without the engine, or jump anytime with the subsystem installed. That's how I'd do it anyways.

There will be a transition, flying straight through will not be plausable (technically possible) but would take days if not weeks of real time.

Heh, now I want to try it... Though I'll have to do it on a secondary computer...

LT: Does that time estimation include flying with micro warp enabled?

Also..since traveling between systems will not be plausible through normal flight, will there be something to make you feel like you've actually done something to go there instead of just a loading screen or the currently implemented insta-jump?

Each planets (in a system) are few millions Kms apart. System even further. You technically can go faster with the MWD, but in both case it would take a very long time.

Jump drive won't be instant, you'll have a transition. And probably a cool down on it or requirement before re-using it

Is this what the jump drive subsystem will be used for then? I was a bit confused about how the normal warp still worked without it.

You have the Jump drive, which allows to jump to anywhere. (ATM it's when you click on a sector) and you have the MWD, micro warp drive, which allow travelling into each sector. (You can go outside of sectors but will take time)

Thanks for the explanation. :)
