How to go faster than 1XX.X km/s
Okay so I know about the kinetic field and whatnot with T, but I still cannot manage to get ANY of my ships to go faster than 50 km/s no matter how many engines I put on the thing. What can I do? Any enemy contacts I come in range with immediately fly away.

Do your ships have enough power? You need to add enough reactors to fully power your engines.

Yes, more than enough. I need real responses please, thats not really helpful. I think I would know it my engines were all running or not.

Fair enough, but to be even more fair you weren't helpful. Paint me cynical, but stating the obvious doesn't seem too helpful. More of an insult to my intelligence. Its like when you call the tech support people and they ask you if your machine is turned on.

On a race with two identical ships and max speed the first to turn off the kinetic field win, AI has it always turned off. The AI just need rework and aren't affected by the ship weight.

When you launch from the shipyard, the kinetic field is on. If you set engines to full power (Shift+R default) and keep your ship pointed straight ahead, you will soon reach your maximum normal speed. Then activate your boosters (SPACE default), you will accelerate to a maximum boosted speed. I believe my fastest ship goes about 23 km/s in this state. This is far faster than the AI typically move, and therefore good enough for combat. Deactivating the kinetic field (T default) will cause you to accelerate infinitely, given you do not change direction. This is really best for travel.

With the kinetic field on, your fastest ship (from what I can tell so far) will be all size 4 parts. This is because the most efficient forward thrust:mass ratio is found in size 4 engines with size 4 engine modules. In order to build a space "drag racer", you cram in as many size 4 engines as you can, and use only engine modules (boost modules are less efficient). Of course, you must have enough hull pieces to house your reactor modules, just enough to power your engines. The power produced by a reactor module is represented by the stat "p_Att". The power required by an engine module is "p_Req".

Play around with it a bit, but I must say that despite having "fast" ships, kinetic field flight only feels fast when I fly by an AI.
