graphics issue? cpu? overheating?
just loaded up my frist game, placed 3 pieces went to delete my 3rd. my delete action wouldnt work, received a black screen then my laptop turned off. i suspect it could be a graphics issue and thus overheating? or maybe the cpu was being over worked? hence the black screen then the turn off as the laptop felt hot.

anyone any ideas? am trying to locate a log file if that would help but unsure where it is.

ive seen a few people mention vsync in the forums, but have no real idea, someone mentioned enabeling it in games (any not just this one) should reduce the frame rate and thus reduce the load on the graphics card, is that correct? and if so would that help my problem?

oh and i understand this is an early build, i dont expect it to work flawlessly!

the entry before the unexpected shutdown listing in Event Viewer mentions this:
The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report.

a few things:

1: this game currently uses a lot of GPU power, since its not exactly optimized yet.
2: you are on a laptop, which is generally bad for games.
3: vsync is used for smoothing out framerate, it actually uses more processing than no vsync iirc, so it would likely run worse.
4: that event in the event viewer sounds like your drivers are slowing your cpu down for some reason. has nothing to do with the game, probably, but its strange nonetheless. maybe its there to prevent overheating?

also the symptoms you described are common of overheating cpus or gpus, so its probably that. but if you want to be sure, you can get a temperature monitoring program and watch the temperatures while you play. the graphics card really shouldnt go over 75-80 C, and the cpu shouldnt go over 80-90 C (depends on the cpu really).

hope that helps :)

Thanks for your reply and i will check that out.
The only reason im 'surpised',given that i am using a laptop, is that so far (touch wood) anything i have thrown at my laptop i have had no trouble running.
i guess another attempt to play the game with a temp program that will write to a file every measurment, wont damage my laptop when it does it again.

havent used the game since, and a little concerned to try it on my desktop too.

I played this a bit on my PC, worked for a while, and suddenly everything turned into a visual mush, froze, then the screen went dark. Had to shut it off and on. Ever since this, my PC crashes the same way after a few minutes after booting, no matter what I do, and I have no idea how to fix it. Don't know if this is just a huge coincidence, but everything worked fine until I tried this game. Not sure if I dare to install it on my laptop for a new try.....

glad its not just me, i was just getting some temperature logging apps working, before trying the game a second time, and my pc did the same, froze, black screen. this time i manually turned it off. i briefly loaded the menu of the game for about 30seconds then exited prior to this. so maybe it could still be the cause?

well as terrible as this may sound, i really hope its this game. *shrugs*

Have you tried a uninstall of the game so its not on your system?

It's funny how a game like that should mess up computers that bad. And that I just had my PC ruined for only 6,75 Euros! =P

Hm, no. I'll try that in the safe-mode next time I boot it up.

cool let me know, if it solves your issue that definatly points to the game.
am i right in assuming it does it every boot, so it will be easy to see if it solves the problem?

Just force VSync through your gpu and the issue will go away (has to be in fullscreen mode) There will be an ingame option for this soon.

Is that suggested for us both? btw thankyou for the responce it really is great to see a dev help out!
could that also explain the second time it happened, even though it was only run on the menu and for 30 seconds?

goes rummaging through my gpu program looking for it. so force vsync for kineticvoid.exe.

Yeah, go ahead and try it, it could be the overheating issue, if your GPU is getting too hot, VSync will limit the framerate which will prevent this.

I do my best to answer all questions that need my attention, I jsut needed a day off (sunday) Wife and Kids need attention too :D

hmm not sure i can specify it for only kineticvoid, it looks like i can only enable it for everything? would that be right? or am i in the wrong section?

oh i dont mind i was not having a dig when i said i appreciate that you are helping, i was being sincere!
