ok i fixed the boiling point gpu issue, in the nvidia control panel select "manage 3d settings"
select the program settings tab
click add
select kinetic void (have to of loaded it up before for it to be in the list)
scroll down to vsync and set it to on
click apply

Kinetic void is a very basic game and as such runs at a very high framerate, despite popular belief a really high framerate is not good (had to explain this all the time to minecraft players on my server lol) it taxs the graphics card unneedlesly.

to the devs: you really need to add the vsync option to the game menu (please take this as constructive critisim not trolling but the menu is very basic, it would be nice to control the settings a bit more, it is a pc game not console :) *also see bug report )
also please add a ship building tutorial!

cant comment too much on the game yet, havent had a chance to play it much yet

Advanced video options are coming, vsync is included
Dave (AKA Mr G Reaper) 14 Jul, 2013 às 9:12
cool, im actualy uploading a video of my first attempt of the game (from a livestream done before work, i will post it in a new thread when i do along with some suggestions for future patches :) )

Thanks for the tip. That helped some.

There clearly more than just a vsync issue with the rendering system as this game no matter the settings makes my SLI vidcards scream more than some of the most intense open world RPGs I've played. Hopefully as the game moves further along in development that will be addresses and optimized.

Interestingly, resolution and graphics options appear to have almost no effect as far as GPU usage. Vsync set to on via nVidia driver. 640x480xFastest and 1920x1080xFantastic both cause the GPU to heat on the same curve according to EVGA's monitoring utils.

Please help, I tried enabling Vsync in the control panel and the game still heats up my GPU and runs at 450FPS.

@red eagle LXiX
yeah theres something wierd going on, but then im a minecraft player so im used to games that should never ever tax my system in a milllion years unexpectently turning my gpu into a small but effective heater :) i hadnt realised till a little while ago that the game we have is not the final build but an alpha (which explains a few issues i have lol) so im guessing the code is pretty rough at mo but should get better. untill then short play sessions when its not too warm outside too lol

@daedric dave:
I will do a quick video of it when i get home, its pretty straight forward. Sadly though a fix that works for me, may not be a fix that works for you. Pcs are such that one will be very different to another.
Had that not worked for me the next step would be to use a third party vsync locker (or frame rate limiter)

make sure as well your forcing vsync for kinetic void and not for steam, steam works by loading up another exe and as such chages made to nvidia relating to the steam.exe will not take effect on kinetic void (and that sounds way more complicated then it is lol)

Thanks, and I've made sure that Vsync is definitely forced on KV. Thank you for the help though, I may just wait until the devs add Vsync in, does anyone know when it will/is planned to be added?

Also, you don't need to make a video, it's fine. Do you need to restart your PC for the changes to take effect? Because that's the only thing I haven't done.

np, and the dev further up said its coming so atleast we know, im sure now as well they see its a priority, anything that has the potential to do actual damage to our hardware has to be! :) specialy when you factor in that not everyone monitors thier gpu temp (i just notice it when my pc does its rather good impression of a jumbo jet during take off and the air coming from it ruffles my cats furr)

Haha, thanks again, and after forcing Vsync in the nVIDIA control panel do you have to restart your PC for it to work? Thanks.
Dave (AKA Mr G Reaper) 14 Jul, 2013 às 11:30
nope just click apply
Daedric Dave 14 Jul, 2013 às 11:31
ACTUALLY, I FIXED IT! IT WORKS! You can't force VSYNC when it's in windowed mode, thanks!

I think it's because I got the new nVIDIA drivers, thanks anyway.
Dave (AKA Mr G Reaper) 14 Jul, 2013 às 11:44
ah cool, hadnt thought windowed mode would effect it like that, but then i may not be on the latest drivers (at work at mo so cant check)
glad its working, i know from experience theres nothing more anoying then buying a game and then not being able to play it lol
Daedric Dave 14 Jul, 2013 às 12:41
Thanks, thank you very much dude! I added you because you are awesome :D
