Is this game currently in a playable state?
Features look very interesting but I'm wondering if the "game" aspect of play is there. Are there things to do? Can you mine/fight/haul? I don't mind some jankiness in my early start games but I'm a bit put off when I buy a game only to realize I can't actually play it for another 6 months.

I don't expect it to be feature complete but are there things to do?

There's not really a lot to do mission wise right at this moment, although they are working at the first pass for missions hopefully to release soon. Pretty much the game right now is building the ships and flying them around in a generated galaxy.

There's also enemy and friendly NPCs to fight, tho some of us are experienceing problems with that right now.

The game is more like a tech demo right now. You can build cool looking ships and fly them to cool looking planets. You can also shoot lasers (for no reason), but that's about it.

Ah, thanks for the feedback, that's kind of what I was afraid of. I appreciate the need for small developers to offer the game early so they can get capital to continue working on the game but I've been burned a few times so I think I will keep an eye on this and revisit this game around the holidays when more features have been added.

The curent build of the game seems primairly there to prove the ship building and thrust/movement mechanics of the game. Outside of messing with the ship builder (which is pretty good in its current state) and seeing how the ships currently handle, there's pretty much nothing to do currently. (Unless you really want the badge/Steam trading cards... :P )

If you're lucky, you may be able to find some NPCs to fight, but they tend to be very few and far between. They currently don't spawn at all for some people it seems. (The developers have reported they are working on the spawning bugs and issues though :) )

Yeah, there have been NPCs for awhile, and combat, but it's still kinda rough, which makes sense, alpha and all.

In build 0.017 there were plenty of NPCs and nice amounts of varied spawns, friendly and enemy, it's just in the recent 0.018 build that the NPCs seem scarce, since they changed the spawn and movement protocols for NPCs. They're working on it though.

I am not sure how "burned" you can get from paying $7. The potential is there and the reward would be well worth the risk. Sign me up.

It's about my time more than the money. Odds are I will never come back to the game in six months if I buy it now and there's nothing to do in it.

hmm, keeping eye, but I will wait for now. It's tempting as space sims are my favourite, but...

- FAQ says "when?" "July", but it doesn't seem near completion
- no planetary landing planned (Elite2, BC3000AD has it)
- no space station owning planned (great in X2-X3)
- no story yet (Freelancer)
- no fleet control planned (X3).

So I wondering what this game offers to be unique, not seen elsewhere. If I want pure space flight (combat) simulator I would pick Evochron. So how is (wants to be) this game different/better then those above?

Can you land on said planets or just watch them from Orbit? Also if I'm after a space traveling game (as in landing on planets to buy supplies and meet locals) is this the game for me or is it more of a space shooter?

Not Linux (Mint 15), so far I have managed to-

Start game. Crashed out to desktop.

Restart in Full Screen. Got to screen allowing creation of Galaxy/Sectors/Factions. Crashed out to desktop.

Probably the ship builder?
Randomly generator universe with randomly chosen factions and planets?

You cannot land. You will be able however to bombard/blockade planets.

Can you run the game in administrator? It needs privilege to create the galaxies.

Blockade planets? so there is the possibility of trading and politics then?

Thanks and sorry for spamming this thread. I came here from the Steam sale so I'm absolutely clueless about whats going on with this game.
