Suggestion: Weapons
I think this game could be really cool if the space battles are cinematic and epic, and since all of the weapons in game are ballistic based I think these suggestions could work well.

1. As the size of the weapon increases the rate of fire should decrease and of course the caliber of the weapon increases so does damage, effective range, and velocity, but also the trade off of turret turning speed.

2. weapon role not just being able to set a weapon grouping but sizes of ships the weapon is allowed to engage, for instance a size 1 or 2 weapon on a battleship or cruiser could be assigned to point defense for anti-fighter and anti-missile duty, and a size 3 could be tasked to shooting at destroyers and cruisers, and size 5 the main battery to shoot at other battleships or siege bombardment of a station.

Any thoughts?

there should be different types of weapons as well like a sniper turrent a short range machine gun or short range shotgun turrent itd be really cool

There will be many kinds of weapons, with many different firing characteristics. What we have now is placeholder - first pass.

physics for the ballistic weapons would be fantastic, striking at different angles, difference in gun size dictating armor penetration and damage

will the turrets always be automated as they are or are there plans on making them more user ...usable so that i can control their aim? im asking because different projectile velocities would then change combat quite a bit

The weapons in the game right now use physics and the angles do matter.

Colin, if you look at the weapon manager there is a group 'm' this is manual, its not implimented yet but you will be able to manually control turrets.

wait, so do any guns track enemy ships automaticly when in range? or is it jsut the turrets?

The turrets have the ability to swivel, which results in them moving as the enemy ship moves. There are other cannons that are fixed, meaning they only point one direction and if the enemy is not in direct line of sight, they will not destroy the enemy ship.
