Combat Issues
I can't seem to kill any ships, I get them down to say 5% health or so, and then my guns just stop firing, anybody else have this issue?

The turrets will only fire if the turret can predict its capable of hitting, get closer and try to line the shot up better.

I've had this issue as well, actually - even if I am closer (although getting close to a ship is tough, because once you damage them and they lose mass they take off like a bat out of hell)

Is it safe to assume that at some point on the horizon will come more weapon optimizations?

Yes of course, we have done very little with combat at this point.

It can get a little ridiculous sometimes, honestly. Turret tracking is okay, but when you're trying to hit fighters of below a certain size and above a certain speed the guns can't compensate anymore. This isn't as much of a problem if you're in a fighter too (get close, match speed, watch fireworks.) but in larger cruisers it can get a little silly when you have upwards of ten cannons firing at <10km and you can't get a single hit.

In my case, this is exacerbated by a rather annoying bug.

Losing engines doesn't seem to affect speed at all. In fact, I clipped an enemy while flying, sheared off one of my engines and started going an extra km per second faster than before. (My guess is that it has something to do with thrust being conserved, but mass disappearing when you lose pieces.) The flipside of this is that I often blow away large chunks of enemy ships, often leaving only the cockpit behind. The cockpit, now free of its extra mass, now whips around the battlespace at ~3Km or faster.

kinda funny how i can blow up the enemy cockpit and still have them flying around and firing back at me as if someone was still at the helm lol

Yeah there are a few issues with combat still. We are going to start focusing on them very soon here.

no rush LT, just thought it was funny and knew it would be fixed later :)

I noticed you can basically blow the ship up to its smallest hull piece and it will keep moving without any visible engines. The result of course being a fast moving nat that is literally impossible to keep up with or hit anymore that just circles you forever. Also noticed if I build a ship right I can manage to destroy the bulky part of my ship while going insanely fast. LOL.

Was there ever a fix for this? It's September and the enemy AI ships are STILL flying off into circles of death after plowing up a single module on their ships. Some info would be wonderful to know, thanks. Wonderful game BTW, spent 5 hours just in my hangar.
