Mavericks OSX Supported by Kinetic Void
**UPDATE**
As of Patch 0.07 Mavericks is again supported by Kinetic Void, thanks to Rick, one of our awesome programmers.

This thread is to inform our valued community that at this time, we are experience significant issues with the newest Mac operating system, titled Mavericks (10.9 version of Mac OSX). At this time we are unable to resolve the issue, as it is related to the engine we use to create Kinetic Void not yet being fully supported by Mavericks.
Known Bugs:
  • Game freezes at the launch screen or shipyard
  • Game does not load at all, resulting in a black screen
We are keeping an eye on the Unity forums and Mac support forums regarding this issue, in hopes that their next update will allow our game to function normally again for our Mac users. Thank you for your patience in this matter.

I managed to port the PC version over to Mac using a application called Wine, this port has none of the Mac problems, only the ones the PC one has.

The only problem (the PC version has this) is that after loading a large ship, the game slows down, it gets realy choppy, and it even more choppy in space.

Also the snapshot function does not work but I was able to upload to the workshop, unlike the native Mac version.

Thanks for letting us know Reaper. At this point when a ship is large enough, the assets end up taking a heavy toll on the computer's brain power. We are looking at ways to maintain the look of the larger vessels (lots of components) without needing as many detailed assets.

Ok.

I would like to add, while wine is awesome in it's own way it is still a hack program for Windows apps to run on Linux and Mac. This also means that there might be some less than desire side effects from running games and other high resource applications on it. Just wanted to point that out. On a side note thanks to wine I can watch Netflix on Linux.

Our Mac program master (same guy who does our Workshop integration stuff) got the Mavericks issue fixed, so you shouldn't need to use the parallels issue at least not for now :)

I am using OSX 10.9 Mavericks and it isn't working. I launch the game and I am greeted with a black screen. I can hear the music and the steam overlay (SHIFT+TAB) works but nothing else. I have tried re downloading the game numerous times but the problem continues to occur. I have tried to change it into windowed mode but I can't. I try typing -windowed and -window into the steam Kinetic void properties but it has no effect and I can't change it in game because it is fullscreen. Please help! Thank's in advance!

We are aware of the issue and are trying to track down where it is. I have found a work around that gets you guys back up and running currently.

Step 1) Launch KV as normal and press CMD + F to get out of fullscreen mode and back to windowed mode.

Step 2) Open up the Graphics Menu and turn off Anti-Aliasing and apply the settings.

Step 3) Re-Open the Graphics Menu and set the resolution back to full screen mode.

This has worked on the MacBook Pro we have in the office. Not sure what or why this bug is happening.

Do you know if this game will work with the following specs?

Apple 15" Power Book Pro (2009) Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz, 4 MB system RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 256MB dedicated video RAM, running OS X version 10.6.8 (10K549), HSF+ Extended file system.

I do have a newer iMac with much better specs too (Quad Core 3.1GHz, 1GB VRAM video card), but same OS X version 10.6.8, HSF+ Extended file system.

I have a 2010 imac running 10.6.8 and a 3GHz i3 quad core with 4GB of ram and a radeon hd 4670 with 256 vram, and the game manages to work quite well. Apart from some other general problem such as inventory loss in career mode and what not. The one issue I'm waiting to be fixed are the planetary texture distortions seen from a distance. They are not distorted up close, however. So I can imagine it might run on your power book.
