Mining Concept for Kinetic Void
Mining Concepts Revealed for Kinetic Void

Players will be able to gather resources and raw materials from asteroids. These materials can then be used to gain currency in-game, which will be used in the game's economy. Some examples of using this currency would include purchasing trade goods, modules and subsystems for ships, etc.

Mining will be performed by deploying a drone to an asteroid, which will in turn launch a mini game during which the player will control a laser that will cut into the surface of the asteroid (which may result in finding a resource.). If a resource is discovered, it may be gathered with a tractor beam, and then placed into the drone's inventory. The resource will be returned to the ship when the drone returns to recharge. While a drone is charging, it is inactive and may not be used until its charge is complete.

Drones may be deployed to begin mining, and are broken down into multiple categories, including Basic, Energized, Digger and Gatherer. Each category has different strengths as well as weaknesses, so choose your drones wisely.

This feature and many more will be completed throughout the process of our game development, and as always, are subject to change.

Looks like a good concept! I like that it's more than "Right Click on Asteroid. Wait." That's always irked me about Space sims, though understandable.

Might be nice to be able to use multiple drones, like have one drone for lasering and one for Transferring material, though controlling that could be silly, so I guess the transfer might have to automated, or have some kind of handoff. Just a thought for larger ships.

Will it be possible to have more than one drone or only one drone can be activated at the same time?

Hmmm and amry of drones, I kinda like the idea. Maybe you have an upgrade where itis all automated, I can see how it might be fun for the first 20 times.

My only suggestion regarding getting more drones.
Is that perhaps you could be allowed to have more drones like after every 2-3 "shipsize teir advance" ?

That depends on the speed of mining of course - I am assuming that in "late game" if you dont have some kind of counter, only having one mining drone will make future upgrades long and ttedious

Another option to counter this if not with more drones, Larger drones for larger ships. Like they do in eve online "partially" Small drones, medium drones - large drones etc. :)

Really some nice ideas, perhaps at some point you could have a large drone type that contains many smaller drones that harvest several asteriods at a time, then return to the mother drone which can return to the nearest station later for you to pick up?
BTW any ETA on this being implimented?

Thanks for the feedback guys, Irishlizard, we intentionally dont give ETAs, there is little point because if we miss it, it upsets people.

Of course LT, makes a lot of sense, what I really meant to ask is were is this on your list of priorities in relation to other things such as the shipyard, missions, UI ect? I appreciate the answer may be the same.

A new programmer just started on the team, we are working on getting some office systems set up, then he will be working on this system as his first assignment.

You should probably update the team list than to include that new programmer and Kaypix as well.
