No Multiplayer?
I would like to see a Multiplayer added (properly). Would be an insta buy for me.

There's is one that is planned post-launch, which means in a long time, because the core game needs to be done before adding multiplayer.

Thank you for your question. Kinetic Void is still in "Alpha" stage development (noted as it is an Early Access title on Steam). This means we are focusing more on core game mechanics rather than the potentially catastrophic results of moving into multiplayer this early in the development.
We will be looking at adding multiplayer functionality after the game is fully launched.

Ok interesting. Thanks for your reply. Still looks like a sweet game don't get me wrong

My (limited) experience with multiplayer (and especially Internet multiplayer) is that adding it in as an afterthought is bascially impossible: due to the time lag involved, you need to predict some objects moving and a way to resolve game engine actions taken based on these predictions, and if you haven't done that right from the start (which assumes some experience writing this sort of network code), doing it later probably means a thorough rewrite of the game engine, with the added handicap that you can't remove or modify core game features that are hard to do in Multiplayer since the player base has already bought into the single-player gameplay.

Now I admit I'm not a game developer myself and will gladly be corrected by a more informed opinion than mine, but until then, I suspect that multiplayer is going to disappoint, if it ever arrives for this game.

Minecraft added multiplayer as an afterthought, and it caused them a bundle of trouble. So much so that they had to re-do the entire client to make multiplayer the head honcho.

So Mendel, I see some truth in your statement. Also why this game is on my wishlist, and not in my library. I want MP, and I want to make sure that it is added before I spend a cent.

When they're ready to add features I am interested in testing, I'll pay to test the game. Otherwise I'll sit back and watch/hope that they add stuff that makes the game MP versus SP.

Why does this game need to be multi player? It is a awesome game on it own. Not every game needs to be mutliplay now...

It doesn't "need" to be multiplayer.

I became interested because of the space aspect. I became sold when I saw the word multiplayer. My wallet snapped shut when I saw "Not yet"

It will pry open again when (if) yet has been reached. Otherwise, it's a fancy looking placeholder on my wishlist. Honestly, I got Space Engineers due to their awesome update regiment. Otherwise I probably would be arguing FOR Kenetic Void.

I'll sit and wait to see what happens when (if) MP is added to the game. If it goes like Minecrafts' did, then I'll be happy I waited! If it gets implemented all perfect like, I'll be glad I waited! Since I am alone in the real world, why would I want to play a game where I am also alone.

(Though I suppose if the moniker fits, I should wear it. And forever is not just "some of the time"...)

Why not get this game now, between Spcae Engineers and this game, well this game runs on Steam OS. You can't say that about the other game. I have not played Space Engineer becuase there is no Linux support but I do own the game.... There is a good chance this game will never be multi player. Now with that being said once they get closer to the release date they will look in to it. Aslo from what I have read in this forum their next game will be more gear toward mulitplayer. This mean you should buy this game so they can hire more people to complete this game quicker. End result would by they can focus on mulitplayer or finish this awesome project and work on that other game....

I run two computers both with Windows installed. So Steam OS/Linux support doesn't affect me that much. I am glad that they offer this, it allows them to reach more wallets to fill their coffers. Too few games give support for our Linux pals, and it's a wonderfully untapped market in terms of gaming. Kudos to their keen business sense!

That is EXACTLY why I have yet to buy the game. Since one of my deciding factors is an MP element, the possibility of them saying "nevermind" is too great. As is the chance that adding MP will cause hella bugs (Thanks Cartman!). Again, another reason I have held off on purchasing this game.

Oh my gosh, this part of your post has me quite worried.

1) They are already talking about their next game, and this one is in development? That's not a very good sign.

As someone pointed out already, Space Engineers is a result of that process. And the earlier games are not "up to par" because of it. So now you're saying this company plans to make a new game, will they follow suit and let this game go "bye-bye" in terms of vision? Which brings us back to the whole, what about MP stuff. That's part of that vision that could be scrapped for this "new game".

2)"You should buy this game so they can hire more people..."

Not after you said they are getting ready to work on another game. I would be interested in this one, and paying for this one. Not Kenetic Void 2 Electric Boogaloo.

If anything, the recent sale and reading the boards has solidified my original position when I added this game those months ago. "Wait and see"

Okay let me clear something up about the next game. They are going to complete this game first. Right now from what I understood their next game is just sitting in a folder some where and when they get an idea they put that in the folder. Once they complete this game they are going to open that folder and take whats in reevalutate those ideas.

I they already said they will finish this game before they work on that future game.
They are not going to spend very much resources other then entertaining the thought of the next game.

With that being said, they want to fucus their next game on being mutliplayer, That is how far they have gotten and will ever get till this game is complete.

This game is their first baby and will want to see it completed more than you want it to be multiplayer.

Hey guys, stepping in to clear things up.
Mendel:
If we tried opening the game up to multi-player now, the problems we've encountered would be amplified ten-fold. We want the core game to be fully functional and bug free before introducing the possibility of multi-player. If that means a rewrite of part of the game, we'll cross that bridge when we get there, but at least the game will still be playable.

Anthony:
I'm OK with you waiting to buy our game, once it's fully launched I'm sure you'll love it :) Yes, we've talked about making a new game, mostly over pizza when we're eating dinner at one of the team member's house on Sunday night, scribbling on a napkin and I'll type it into a document we have when I have a chance. Kinetic Void is our first and foremost responsibility, but allowing us to chat about other ideas comes back around and allows us to be rejuvenated for Kinetic Void. KV is our baby, and we are going to raise it right, see it graduate and take over the universe before looking at having another ;)

You type perty good for being on a cell phone Kaypix....

As always I'm loving the developer input :) So firstly, thanks for being involved with the community here on Steam. Too many times the Devs hide on their own forums, leaving us lazies to actually have to use the internets browsers.

Secondly, thank you for clearing up the information on the next installment from your company! I was a little worried, but not too much. Since I try to give my trust, till it's taken by force :)

I do have one question though: Have you folks worked at all on a multiplayer aspect yet?

Space Engineers has a MP in the works as well. They state that they already have a MP version they are working on, but do not want to release a MP EA until they have the kinks out. This seems to be the same thing you're stating.

If you guys are already working on an MP (even if it's just small working on) I might be persuaded to purchase sooner, rather than later. I don't mind waits, long or otherwise, especially with beta/alphas. If you're workin' on the MP now, I will give my $$ now since you'll need that to finish the MP :P

Again, thanks for being receptive and responsive! That alone makes me want to click buy :D
