First impressions
OK I've had this game for a while, lets load it up and see what it's all about.

Let's build a ship. Hmm the engine has to face backwards... I don't get it, it's on the back of the ship. I'll try pressing buttons maybe I can rotate it. Nope none of my random button mashing is working. Oh wait it finally stuck on somewhere. Ok great I have space ship with a cockpit and a hull and an engine and a gun. Lets get flying!

Why doesn't the warp drive do anything? I can barely move. Wtf is going on with this game?

(10 minutes later after reviewing the videos)

Oh OK, I have to add components after putting the things on, and you press R to change the axis and q and e to rotate. R for rotate I guess? Whatever.

Ship 2 built! It looks much smoother and has a warp drive and shields this time, and a nice big gun, and a sweet red and yellow paint job. Time to go bust some heads!

Yey I'm flying! Flying in space! Listen to those engines purr!

Oh look an asteroid, I'll warp over to it.

Wow, that was... abrupt. OK, now what do I do with it? Nothing? Uh. Huh. I would be feeling really underwhelmed but hey, some red dots on my HUD -AND- some treatening messages popping up on my screen. It looks like these pirates picked on the wrong guy!

...

They're... they're flying away from me. At just a little above my top speed.

No problem I'll fire a warning shot (presses 1, nothing happens). I'll... fire... a... warning... shot (presses 1, nothing happens).

OK, surely there are some other pirates who DO want to fight, or at least fly near each other meanacingly while pressing 1 and having nothing happen. Oh, I'll warp over to that other group of red dots.... and they're flying away from me too at just above my top speed.

So uh... this is a space simulation designed to give the player feelings of confusion, futility, social rejection, and impotence?

I can get that by talking to my girlfriend for free. Maybe the next heir to Privateer will be worth the trouble.

This is a pre-alpha game, expect it to be incomplete. You also have to select a target and declare it as such using the mouse to select it then press C. And you have to have a sensor system installed to even do that.

Oh, did you add any guns? Also, pressing one enables or disables the automatic targeting and firing of your weapons. Pressing it over and over again never gives the guns the change to fire (do you have guns? Are they oriented so that they can hit your target within their firing arc(s)?)

Why you trolling for some reason because you didn't read the LARGE PRINT that pops up before you buy the game that says this is still in development.

Engines must face the rear of the ship, meaning that your ship will have a single point of reference which is consistent across any given ship. Your cockpit can face any other direction, or be in any configuration with your hull etc, but the engine is the one thing that has a specific direction it must face. To rotate a item on the current Node (blue triangle), press Q or E. These are used because they're on the left hand portion of the keyboard, allowing continuous control of the piece. Also, you may change the controls within the shipyard at any time by pressing the Escape key (ESC) and then selecting Options, Controls, and Shipyard (see below).

R is simply being used to change the node at this time, but as mentioned above, you can change what it controls.

Warps are focused on just working right now, visuals can be updated as we move along in development. They were actually just implemented in patch 0.06 (Warp To / Align To) so are still pretty new. The MWD (MicroWarp Drive) is more visually appealing and has sound effects and dust particles around it etc. (Shift+T to initiate MWD, then T to end it). The red dots on your HUD are enemy ships, and it's set as a radial display, so if you see a red dot in the "2 o'clock" position for example, start panning your camera that way (pressing V will allow you to control the ship's direction with your mouse) and you'll eventually have the icon show up in your main window, and it'll probably be an enemy ship.

Pressing T will disable your Kinetic Field, and Shift+R will go full speed ahead, meaning your top speed is somewhere around 2,000,000 m/s, same as theirs. Pressing T again will re-enable your Kinetic Field and slow you down to a more proper speed. This will allow you to catch up to the enemies.

Before you press 1, you should have them targeted (clicked on and press C, the white circle around them will turn red, they are now targeted) and then they should be in range. If they aren't in range, you'll see a red "out of range" message appear near their icon.

I hope that helps you feel less confused, futile, socially rejected and impotent :) Please let me know if you have any additional questions, I'll be making a new Drone video this week as well as a new indepth PDF guide of playing Kinetic Void.

Ha ha ! mate such a good read. (chuckles to himself) i agree 100% this game feels so cheap its baaadd but not in a good way. Star Citizen seems like the only space game in town. Roll on 2015 !

Thanks a lot for the response, Kaypix. I had a bit of trouble getting things up and running when I first started things up-- hopefully things go better on attempt #2.

I really appreciate the response, I mostly made this post beceause I have a fresh (if sarcastic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥) perspective on the game and wanted you to have an idea of some of the problems people might be facing when first loading it up. I don't regret spending money on it, I want more games like this and I love what you're trying. I also know this is early days and you're still working on it, but I figure honest feedback is more useful than ♥♥♥ kissing. Keep working on it and I'll check back in periodically, I have high hopes that this could eventually be a really fun time. Meanwhile, those zombies over in Left 4 Dead aren't going to kill themselves!

Also I got those girlfriend issues cleared up. Just needed to reset her cookies.

believe it or not, I pretty much felt exactly what the op felt upon playing this game. Well, minus the booster facing towards the rear, I read it somewhere and got it right the first time. I didn't know all ships went the same speed, but it'd be awesome to make bulkier ships slower and smaller ships faster. That way I could at least kill something and not have it run away successfully every single time.

Basically I stopped playing since everything runs away too fast, but the game seems good enough. I'll wait until its more complete to try again in the future.
Dakili 7. jan @ 6:39pm
They don't all go to the same speed.

It depends on how much mass as you ship and how much forward power your engine can give. Always try to have 2x or more forward power than your total mass. It helps a lot

As we continue to develop, the game mechanics will also improve, finding a more balanced combat and flight system.
