HOW TO BUILD A SHIP (Discussion)
For a good while i wondered: how the hell you make a good-shapped ship? I mean, yeah, what you got isnt some Minecraft pixels or rocket pieces like KSP (great game btw), its ship pieces...FOR A SPACE SHIP. Those thing come in all shapes and sizes in Science Fiction, not to mention symmetry and irregularity at times (that is, you got bits sticking out). The sheer level of variety possible for MAKING a ship is well...you get the idea.

So i decided to try helping people who dont got the hang of how to make the ship you got in mind yet.

P.S.: id add stuff, but its almost 4 am where im at, and i got a trip on the 31st to get ready for, so i need my sleep.

Well before the update I spent some time making one that looked like a giant rectangle block (length wise facing forward), a command center sticking out of the front-middle, with some structures lining it like fins, structures that made it look like it had wings of some sort, engines covering the back side completely, guns where ever there was free surface area, and a couple of those side swipe spike things. I'm not sure exactly on how to build a good effiecient ship however, haha, it just looked decent and I tried to go all out. If you take the time to try and mess with different pieces, rotation and angles you can build a ship with familiar shapes that you're used to seeing.
It would probably be a lot harder now though after the update, I just tried to build another ship and now I have a credit limit for parts that's so small I couldn't even build a complete ship buying the cheapest parts possible. And flying it was pathetically hilarious, It took 1:45 seconds for it to make a complete circle and full speed was 30 MPH.

My tip for all ships you build: NEVER start with CC, it gives a ship so much character, if you are stuck with the wrong bridge it can make the whole ship loose 1/3 of its style.

Try new things! Try building in a way you don't usually do. You could learn a few new tricks that could make your ship building better. All my ships have this kind of "fast" look too them. So I tried to build a slow heavy looking ship.

A little fun thing you could try: Use the CC just like any other hull. :)

Try to mix different size hulls with each other, to give the ship a little variety and "depth". Quite hard to make a good looking ship using the same size hulls.

Don't force yourself to build something if you don't know what to build. But if you suddenly get this great idea, stop thinking more about it. Just go in and start building and create it in the shipyard instead of your head.

Lol, all that is the same for art or writing as well, since it can be harder at times to start with a set shape/component than to make something that is abstract, and it is also important to make what you imagine (of course, to do THAT, you need to know what you got avaliable).

Actually I want to ask you something Frozhax: how DO you make a fast-looking ship? all I can make are long, carrier-style ships, or simply big bulky ones. I am aware though, that to make a fast-looking ship requires minimal parts to maximize speed/minimize target size.

RE: FancyPhesant
They don't have that kind of "heavy" look to them. More like some kind of fighter jet'ish look to them if you get what I mean. That's what I meant by "fast look" :)
