My first few hours in the game -
It took me a little while to get the hang of what I was doing in game, but I've finally managed to start understanding things and coming up with a design philosophy for a ship.

I made a few ships and flew them, and found what I liked and didn't, or used and didn't. I fought a few enemies and adjusted my designs.

I've learned a few things about how the game works now - and see the obvious influences.

The game's movement, flight and combat mechanics are based loosely around EVE online. Energy weapons are effective against shields, mass weapons are effective against hulls.

There are drones, and sizes classes of ships (and weapons), and fitment restrictions.

Last night I iterated through a few different types of fighter craft and settled on my first public design which I'd like to share here -

Very tough and highly mobile. Can easily take on multiple heavy fighters or another frigate.

While EVE might be the most popular, I think our developers are merely applying the same logic of "Realistic Space Simulator". This will lead them to many of the same conclusions such as having energy weapons be more effective against shields.

I'll have a go at your ship! It looks very mobile indeed.

My goal right now is building a balanced starter ship.

The ship is fast with a top speed of around 300-400m/s. Some thrusters would compliment your engine power nicely.

However, I was able to take down a Destroyer in 5 minutes because those lasers are really strong. Kinetic bullets were too inaccurate to tell about damage.

The AMS took out almost every rocket that he fired at me. When one did slip through my shield took it out.

So yes, this ship is very powerful! :)

Welcome to the community :) Your ship looks awesome, I'll have to play around with it when I'm not bug testing :D

I like the way you used the V shaped hull there, i'll try some designs with it! Nice ship, by the way.

That's a nice ship :). How much does it weight?

I tend too build Heavy Fighters and stick too the 1500 Mass limit normally.

This is the sort of thing that I like too build. It's got enough Engines to get it too 1,200 M/S, and a few weapon systems ranging from 8 Chain Cannons, to 8 Heavy Cannons, 3 Beam Weapons and about 16 Swarm Missle System's:

I could get the speed up by ditching the weapons and including more Engines, but I don't like to feel like I can't defend myself if the crap hit's the fan.

This ship is at the very top of heavy fighter. The armor is primarily reflective - AMS takes care of explosive which leaves only kinetic, which you avoid by only moving into kinetic kill range when you're ready to do the killing.

By the way - I highly HIGHLY recommend using the mass drivers for what they are intended. You can take out a destroyer pretty fast if you close on it after taking out the sihelds. The lasters are really only intended to take shields down on this ship.

Fix'd! It was actually one AMS too heavy for heavy fighter, and those AMS were redundant. There is room for one more AMS but I'm fine with 360 coverate from two.
