How to make AI use more powerful of my ships?
Hi everybody:) After new update game really looks well, all this new stuff and other, now there are more ways to bring my imagination to life. But there is one problem as for me: I used to build massive and powerful dreadnoughts and take part in epic space titans battles. But AI factions are using only small ships, the most powerful enemy I've faced since update was the my weakest battleship. Is there some way to make AI use better ships? Of course I can use weaker ships for my own, but thats not so interesting for me, as I want to fight some dreadnoughts.

Cossack:
Good morning, and thank you for your question! There are a couple different ways you can add uber powerful Faction ships. 1) Subscribe to powerful ships on the workshop, then move their ship files from the subscribed folder over to the save location 2) Move the ship files into the Factions folders of the galaxy you're in or 3) Wait until next patch when the AI will be launched more according to the player's level :) The choice as they say, is yours (insert evil muhaha sound).

Good morning Kaypix, where do we find the subscribed folder?
Gortern Mar 26, 2014 @ 12:14pm
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\83074684\227160\local\subscribed ships

Each ship is labeled Content.ship, so its wise to make a copy of it and then name it something more reconizable.

What he said ;)

Thanks Gortern!

Does this mean we can assign a line of ships with a similar style to a faction so that faction will only use those ships? It would be great to have different factions with totally different ships. That is something I was hoping would happen eventually.

One more question, is there a way to create our own factions in game with a custom name and custom line of ships?

you can, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Kinetic Void\SaveFiles and you will see a bunch of .ship files, if you move them out of that dictionary, the factions will not use those default ships, after that go to the Factions folder and you will see a bunch of folders with different Faction names, simply drag and drop ships into the folder you want the faction to use, if you're confused towards what faction is in your galaxy, simply go into game, select and ship and enter space, after that press K, this will bring up the faction menu.

You can try deleting a faction folder + Text file then proceed to write your own, it doesn't seem that difficult.

the structure of the text file appears to be just:

Name
Name without spaces so the game can read it
What kind of faction are they

and then you would just make a folder to put the ships in, make sure it mimics the others.

That totally worked Gortern! Custom factions with custom ships... awesome!
Wow, thank you everybody! With ability to customize factions game is going to be much more intersting!
P.S. If someone can't find his own ship, they are stored here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\115142862\227160\remote
Number folders can be different from mine, in that case just open every folder and look, or try to find save folder with standart search by looking for any of your ships name)))

Just a heads up the 227160 is the steam id for KV so that will be the same for everyone. The way the faction folders work is when that faction spawns if there are ships in its folder it will use one of those ships. If there is nothing in the folder it will default back to the SavFiles ships.

Awesome stuff! And thanks for the info Cossack, I was wondering where to find my own ships!

@Kris, are you guys planning to add custom faction settings in a later patch?
mergele Mar 27, 2014 @ 2:16pm
Just a thought: wouldn't it be more storage efficent to save all ships in a shared folder and then give the factions a file with the specific ships to use?
Kaypix Mar 27, 2014 @ 3:09pm
mergele: Actually the shipfiles are tiny, like, a few KB (average ship file is 2kb) so storage isn't ever going to be an issue :) As Kris mentioned, all factions will dip into your SaveFile folder if they don't have ships specifically in their folder, and the only way for a faction to have a specific ship it launches (and only that ship/list of ships) is for the file to be in the Faction folder, which gets placed by the player manually. Hope that helps :)

I don't know if anyone's figured this out yet, so I'll post this anyway.

Okay so I was just looking through this thread the other day, and I was trying to figure out how to distinguish different subscribed ships from each other. I was chugging my game trying to fight dozens of dreadnoughts that I didn't recognize, after adding ALL of the subscribed ships I had, to all of the factions - a total of 47 ships.

I discovered that each ship on the workshop has a unique number in the Steam URL, just towards the end of it.
For example - a ship I really enjoy by the way, thanks Gortern - Here's the link to it:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=241472313&searchtext=
The number you want is the number after the "id=" So therefore, in this case, for this ship, It's 2414723.
After you've subscribed to the ship you like, it's then simply a matter of using the search function in the folder where your subscribed ships are located, with the appropriate number.

I hope this helps! And a big thanks to the dev team and community for enabling us to battle other community ships! :)
