new vs old ship builder
ive found that im unable to get the new shipbuilder to work at all. with parts not connecting, not being able to place sub systems, or many other glitches. this is in comparsion to the old one that i used to have a blast with. the vissible nodes were easier to use and stuf tended to line up better. we could really use a visable grid and connection points. i would like to be able to play this game again and was wondering if any one elese had simmler troubles. heres hoping i didnt end up wasting my cash.

New builder is fine. What am I saying? new builder is far better than the old one.

If you are having troubles maybe its because you dont know how to use it or maybe because your game is broken. Try to verify the cache or reinstalling the game.

For me builder works

To be honest, I kind of prefer the old system. While the new system does allow for more advanced cutomization and asthetic designs, the old version was definitely more user-friendly and it was easier to design large ships.

That being said, the new version has too many awsome features to just give up on, mirror mode especially. I will admit, mirror mode DOES get finicky from time to time, but it just means you have to figure out how to use the buttons beneath the mirror mode icon in the left-side tab to finagle the pieces into proper position. I know of at least two modules you have to flip if you want them to properly mirror each other. On an off day I have to mix and match the plane alterations.

Basically, I just want a node system possibility that basically just aligned everything. The larger gridlines currently have a few bugs and are not good for it.

I like the new builder. The old one made building a symmetrical design extremely difficult, now this is easy. And those designs do make sense, after all, for ship building. And even if you want an asymmetrical design, you could start off with a far quicker base to work from now.

Also, if your mirror mode 'displaces' objects continually, you are not building from the starting block on your build and you need to start over to fix it. Found this out the hard way. The mirror mode will always align to the first block you place, and sometimes you can end up losing the transparent starter block in the process.

This is going to sound really, really stupid, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to place subsystems anymore.

least you can get to that point, im having issues with just getting stuff to match up in a non tedious manor, let alone weapons.

Well.. what do you want? a more precise and freedish builder or a less precise, more casual builder?

Old builder was more casual, less precise and it limited the player into a few option for build (rotate was a fixed value, you can only put modules in nodes, freemode sucks, you cant move the module arround, cant mirror.)

New builder is totally the opposite, you can move modules arround, you can rotate it whatever you want, you even can clip it with other module and can mirror. The majority of community was requesting that. And they brought it to us.

Its true the UI need to be more user friendly (Im sure they will work into it) but the new builder is far better than old, I dont understand why are you complaining about it.

Actually Subsystem are split into 3. Engines, Command module and Hull.

To place subsystems you need to:

Right click command center (aka cockpit) place subsystems

Right click engines and place engines subsystems

Right click Hull Modules and.. place more misc subsystems.

So in command module you can put sensors, in hull modules cargo + generators + misc things and in Engines well engine subsystems.

Right clicking flat out does nothing for me. I haven't rebound any keys, either.

Pond, go into the option menu and reset the Key bindings to default we had a bug that corrupted them for some people resetting the bindings fixes it.

I too miss the node points......they should bring them back but still keep the new abilities, would make building a little simpler.

Never used the old builder, but the new one works flawlessly for me as long as I stay below 2000 module count. :-)

I don’t miss the old nodes myself. But it wouldn’t hurt to have both to use. I like the ability to clip parts and make things look smoother, which the nodes don’t let you do too well.
I do miss some of the old pre d11 weapon designs. It would also be nice to have both.
It would be nice to be able to select multiple modules to move them at ones. And have mirroring and radial placement around a build.



never mined, I forgot there is mirroring, just no way to move more then one part after placing them. but they will mirror until placed
