Blood and Ironclads
So the new expansion has just been released.
I have only played the 2 first missions but so far it looks good. Some real challanges here, specially if you want to do the story challenges. For example the second mission has a lot of infantry only terrain and two ap+ capture points. Also the enemy has access to artillary strike. Combine that with the challenge "Don't lose any infantry." and you have are really going to have to think through your tactics (escape plan seems like a must card).

For new cards I haven't seen that many yet but the theme for the French seems to be mostly defensive with a lot of infantry while the Prussians seem to be blitz tactics.

What is the war mode?

Hi, i love this game, but this add on is not that great for Campaign point of view (no fr/ger card to begin with, i m playing cowboys and indians against france and germany :S No story, No character nor Scenes between battle :@ ),
it s more like 2 news factions for multiplayer later: but there isn't enough players in Multi to be worth it :/

Note: the WAR mode is just a challenge type: Deck only FR in germany and vice versa,
but you need to unlock the cards before, so you play old factions first... twisted :/

Im a bit disappointed, but this game is a pretty good game overall !

Just finished this dlc, including challenges and war mode. I like this game very much and the dlc was fun, but less interesting than the rise of dmitry imo and while I enjoyed every minutes I played, I regret the lack of risk taken here.

Maps are basically reusing the same stuff (mortars, flags, blockables) with few tweaks adding no real strategic depth. I was expecting a badass, refreshing and challenging level like the gauntlet, but there isnt any boss level.

Some of the new cards are innovative and add something to the gameplay, but most of them are copies of previous ones with a different design/cost or a mix of 2 cards.

Also some minor stuff I disliked :
-I found the "don't let any mortar be fired" challenge in the first prussian level (in Baden) too random. The AI spawns a jäger approx 50% of the time in the mortar line and you simply can't do anything to prevent it from firing the mortar so you just have to restart...
-the trees in the Bavarian forest makes it annoying to pause/resume ironclads and equip parts when they are behind them, I don't know why they are selectable in the first place.

This may sounds too negative but overall I really appreciated the game and I hope there is a sequel with new stuff in it, like more lanes or 4 spawn points with a square shaped board and the ability to change ironclads directions (but yeah I imagine it would be very hard to code and requires more sprites)

I completly agree.
Now that i ve got everything at 100% 3 days after the release
i want to go Multi 1v1 but it can t connect to steam ??

I don't know if it ll be another add ons, but i ll stop play this awsome game till :/

@MadameBrisson: We've got fixes for the two issues you found (the challenge and the trees) coming in the next update. Thanks for reporting them!

Glad I could help!
Then maybe I should mention that there is also a minor thing with the AI. Even before this dlc, when it puts a ranged + reloadable weapon on an ironclad, it sometimes keeps the said ironclad paused on the lane even when you don't spawn anything in front of it. It goes weird when the AI keeps spawning ironclads or infantry behind it, thus blocking its own way and wasting AP for the rest of the level.

While it wasnt very important in the previous levels I noticed that, it becomes exploitable in the Bavarian forest, when the AI spawns an ironclad in the top lane and equips it with the prussian canon (rarely), then pause the ironclad eternally, usually at the third column starting from the right. Since there are trees and the AI seems to prioritize the spawn of ironclads at the empty lanes, if you don't touch the trees, you can win confortably with some manoeuvers at the bottom lanes because the AI won't spawn ironclads anymore, even with enough ap.

This is probably hard to understand without a picture, so I will try to make a screenshot when I have the time, although I'm not sure if this is worth your time since it's not really game breaking.

keep rocking!

The aforementioned fixes are live now, in addition to some special changes to the fourth and eighth missions of the add-on. Try them out and let us know what you think!

@MadameBrisson: I totally know what you're talking about. I'll look into it.

nice, now they really feel like final levels, especially the eigth missions with the conscript spam. Did them both with an AOE build, but not without some pain, and it felt much more rewarding!

Finished all levels and got all cards from the DLC. Liked it overall, specially the ironclad design for the german army. The new cards could be more unique, but I know how difficult is to come with new stuff without breaking everything else.

Now if only the multiplayer was active... :( May 15, 2014 @ 7:04pm
Just finished all the levels in the expansion. I really enjoy this game, and I'm curious to see what new deck styles are going to come out of the new factions in multiplayer. But one thing I realized while playing the expansion is that the multiplayer isn't really like the single-player campaigns -- single-player, you are presented with some static deck/level with some weird constraints (such as the "enemy must score no VP" -- that was really hard) and you have to come up with a deck that will make that work for you. Multiplayer is much more random and sometimes much less satisfying, because you have no idea what to expect from the other player, whereas in single-player, it's almost like a puzzle game.

Does anyone have suggestions for how to beat the final mission, Streets of Berlin? That one has stumped me for a week.
