The exact choice of infantry and clad is not set in stone. I would for example very much consider the Veteran Rifleman because it survives an Artillery Barrage. The above deck just has the advantage of being merc only.
Good use of repair is key here. If two mining drill armed clads go up against each other a single repair will mean that one side comes out alive. But after that you need 2 more repairs to go even with a second one and 3 more to win, so don't waste them if they don't actually change the outcome.
Because if it doesn't it's fairly easy as he is almost exclusivly using close combat weapons (sometime he uses the flamer but it's very seldom). So just 2 well placed clads with Wood Chirpers can shut him down completely. Then just fill up with what ever infantry you want.
Otherwise here is a infantry only deck that I just tested that works fine (it acutally won faster than my clad based deck :-))
3x Musket Mercenary
3x Shotgun Mercenary
3x Fox Runner
2x Lumberjack
1x Sharpshooter
4x Maneuver
4x Load at Will
Note that the Lumberjack is a last line of defence unit, deploy it right in front of a clad that is about to exit on your side and play Load at Will on it. Instant 6 damage kills any clad.
