Ship Size Indicator in Ship Design
I like the title says, I'll like to see iit in the ship design as it bug me that I can only know the size of the ship I made after building it in the shipyard. I would like to see the dimension of the ship I'm making as I make it. As it has happen that i made a ship smaller then I wanted too.

you can see the hull hit point on the side that give you a really good clue what the hull size
that not what I mean, that easy to see and you know the hull size when you design the ship. I'm talking about the dimension of the ship, the XX by XX by XX that you see after building the ship when you look at the detail in the fleet category

There is no actual way to see the dimensions of the ship from ship designer as your're building them. You need to build it then highlight ship, click detail button and look at specs dialog box in details view to see the dimensions. If the ship is not right decommission it, reopen designer and edit ship to make parts bigger or smaller.

since the actual size of the ship mean nothing in this game i dont see the need to know it

what matter is hull size only u could make a one pixel huge hull size and have a better ship then your 5 km ship medium size ship

This made me laugh so hard. If the ship size/look did not matter SD would just of made all thier ships a 1 Block peice of ugly junk and not bothered including a designer. You think people would have bought the game knowing that? Just because you are, doesnt mean everyone else is in your boat. Trust me, you boat is lonely.

EDIT:

As a matter of fact I am glad the workshop ship designers go to such lengths to make thier ships look right. It adds flavor and shows they have pride in their work. It makes the game more enjoyable for us people that like our games to have some eye candy that is pleasing to the eye. +1 to them, -100 to you.

In addition to the above comment from my esteamed colleague Horemvore:

Kramark, perhaps you need to stop playing Galactic Civilizations III and go back to playing Lego Star Wars on the PlayStation or a game that requires no real ship designer skill or at least stop giving useless advice when you do not know what your talking about.

TROLL!

all ship with the huge size hull will have the same tonnage weight witch his 857500. all have 250 crew member the size of the ship is create automaticly by the game depending on the look you will give the ship.

go check this ship in the game download platform it call Really Small Ship Capital ship
it has only engine missile and accesoiries for missile nothing else but a middle section to start the ship

youll see that ship is huge but i have create it by scrolling down the size to the min.

so yes no matter the size of your ship it will have the huge size weight crew and hit point

Kramark you obviously do not know what dimensions means. It means height, width and length, it has nothing to do with weight or crew capacity.

di·men·sion /dəˈmen(t)SH(ə)n/ noun

plural noun: dimensions

1. an aspect or feature of a situation, problem, or thing.
"sun-dried tomatoes add a new dimension to this sauce"
synonyms: aspect, feature, element, facet, side
"the cultural dimensions of the problem"

2. a measurable extent of some kind, such as length, breadth, depth, or height.
"the final dimensions of the pond were 14 ft. x 8 ft"

(facepalm)

I for one thank SD for giveing us the ship designer. Without it I for one would have gotten alot less enjoyment from Gal Civ. then I have.
@ Kramark before you open mouth and insert foot again. Know what you are talking about!

You guy are funny, size of the ship doenst matter in this game let say you ship his 333 x 333 x333 will not be stronger then a ship that 999 x999x 999 it wont have more Hit point and wont last longer in a batlle.

it the hull size that matter and the component you insert in it that will make the ship strenght.

you guy are focusing on a stat. that has no impact in the game

Can a DEV plz explain if the size of the ship matter , im not taking about hull size here please thank you, and im not asking for the dev to take side , just to explain this sdituation regarding this stat.

Kramark, The OP's original question was in regard to ship dimensions, that means the scale size of the ship regard to height, width and length and had nothing to do with ships weight or crew compliment or even hit points. OP wanted to know why his ship looked smaller dimension wise after he built it from the shipyard than it did in ship designer. OP wanted to know if there was a way to see how big a ship is in ship designer without having to bulld it from shipyard. That question was answered by me.

Your answer, or I should say your Trolling commentary, did not help answer the OP's question but instead you gave an assinine opinion of ships from a Component, tonnage and crewed ship point which was NOT what the OP wanted to know. Weapons, defense or support component ship parts do not add to the over all scale dimensions of the ship in regard to length, height or width. Parts scaling while building in ship designer does that depending of hull size chosen. Now, I will stress again you had no idea what you were talking about and should have quit before making yourself look like a complete FOOL!

Size does matter. I like BIG SHIPS, I cannot Lie!!!!

This is your idea of a ship???? HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!

the point of that ship is simply to express u that size of the ship doesnt matter and it'S only been generated by the game. and that any assembly of part that make a ship will work in this game regardless of look.

in his question he seem to be thinking that bigger size 1x1x1 vs 9x9x9 mean bigger strengh with is not true. all i have been saying his that.

and i havent say anything about not liking or sugesting the ship creator in not fun are useless

One of the major selling points of this game, at least for me, was having the ability to create my own custom style ships to play in the game that actually look like ships from Sci Fi TV shows, movies or what I can create from my own imagination. Those are the kinds of ships that most players like to play. Something they created on thier own and share with the GCIII community on workshop. Ships that actually look like ships not lego blocks or the core games ships.

Ship designing in this game is a skill. Some have it and some dont. Apparently you dont have it. How a ship looks actually does matter in the game to a great many players. As one of the Top custom ship designers of this game I can tell you all my workshops subscribers would disagree with you and by that count you are badly outnumbered!

You keep missing the point. The OP's question WAS NOT about ship strength, hit points, weapon, defense or support modules. He knows ALL THAT!!! It was about size dimensions when building in the ship designer pertaining to the length, height and width. OP never mentions what Hull size scale he was using. His question was why cant he see ships overall dimensions in the ship desinger, why does he need to build it before he can see it. THAT WAS HIS QUESTION!. OP never mentions anything in regard to strength of the ship based on the hull scale. Like DAMN!!!!

DO YOU GET IT NOW?????

The reason that I ask this question was that when i creat my ships in the designer, (Which the ship designer was the top reason i bought the game) I would like the dimension indicator to be ADDED in a later expansion. So that when I created diffenrent type of ships classes, be it on the same hull size or not, there a size I would like them to be. I make my Heavy cruisse and light cruisse using the large hull size, but i dont want to accidently make a light cruisse that bigger then my heavy cruisse that doesn't make sense to me.
