City Happiness

Does city happiness affect anything outside of that city? I think it affects production in that city and affects base happiness of units produced there, but if you have a city in the back of your kingdom that is just producing merchandise, does the city happiness affect anything other than the output of the city? In a related question, I just located a site called Spring of Life, iirc. It says in increases happiness. It is in a location that has nothing else useful nearby and building a city there would be a waste. Is it worth it to send a builder to build a fort there? Will the happiness it gives affect my whole kingdom?

So if a city is really unhappy, it can affect the rest of your cities through Unrest.

Sites provide bonus only to the city whose domain they belong to. So Spring of Life boosts only the happiness of that city. Fort can only collect gold, mana and research, not happiness.
