Random Shapes Across Screen

When I start the game, I can only see bits and pieces of the character screen. There are random shapes that cover various parts of the screen. I muddled thru creating a character, clicked around for a bit across the top, n finally was put into the game. Once I was there however, it was like flat square clouds (the same shapes) all over the place. The next thing I know I'm getting hit (or something) and I'm dead.

a) What causes the shapes?
b) Can I get rid of them?

Sound like you are having video card/driver issues. Make sure your drivers are up to date.

Sounds like artefacts which can be a result of either software failure or more likely hardware failure.
