Things to know before buying
Infestation, formerly known as WarZ, is a unique style survival mmo.
What is unique about it is the strange mix between PvP and PvE.
Infestation is a PvP game where you have the choice to PvE (almost) entirely if you want.
I have been playing for 85 hrs and never killed a single player, been only killed 6-7 times by other players.
A FEW IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW:
1. Its open world free pvp, so most players will try to kill you on sight.
Very rarely you will find friendly players and even nice players that will go out of their way to help you (dont count on it though).
2. When you die you drop everything (and i mean EVERYTHING) and it can be looted by the other player.
That includes the items you bought from the cash shop.
For me as a convinced PvE player that just added more excitement, its enjoyable exploring and finding nice stuff to loot while being on the lookout for potential killers.
Explore, avoid other players and find loot that you deposit in your vault at outposts (that way you dont lose it).
3. When you die, not only you drop all your stuff but you have a 1hr countdown before you can revive. You can bypass the countdown by paying with real money (20c or so, less than 5c this weekend).
Yes its an b2p (buy to play) mmo and we all know they have to make money somehow, b2p is a business model not a charity, contrary to the popular belief of underage players.
When you are just starting, you can make another character and play right away and have starter equipment on you. Once you start accumulating exp., you will want to stick to that char.
A FEW BASIC TIPS FOR NON-PVP PLAYERS:
-Avoid crowded servers
-Do NOT respond to group invites, when grouped the other player can see your location and thats exactly what he needs to kill you.
-Ok so now you died and lost your precious flashlight that you valiantly used to hit zombies in the head and kill them, what now?
Head to any named location on the map, sneak around zombies if you can (ctrl key is for sneaking) and you will find plenty of melee weapons (bats, hammers, shovels, you name it) and food and water, thats all you need for now.
-Once you have some extra loot, take it to an outpost (red circle on the map) and look for the Vault, its a bank where you can deposit safely all your stuff.
After you die and respawn, you can take any items from the vault and put it in your inventory even if you are far from the outpost.
-Avoid Clearview and Smallville like the pest, nice loot there but also theres ALWAYS somebody there willing to kill you.
-When another player kills you dont take it personally, its a pvp game and they are playing it as intended. If anything, its we the pve'rs that are trying to play it differently than it was intended.
My personal experience with this game was great.
After the initial shocking wtf moment of losing all my stuff on death and the 1hr respawn, i found a lot of enjoyment playing this game.
It has a great atmosphere, excellent itemization, very good graphics (playing at maxed settings and 1600x1200 resolution is a bliss), and its simply fun to play.
