Yet another reason why not to buy this ♥♥♥♥.. erm game.
Well, I don't know how true it is but a friend of mine (Yes i do have 1 or 2 despite what people may think :p, mentioning no names since I want to protect them from any possible flaming that might start) told me something very interesting today.

Apparently, rumour has it that if you bought Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead via steam, then you will get a free copy of the Day Z stand alone when it comes out. I have not researched this yet so any input will be welcome :).

Let's take a second to reflect though briefly. The War Z costs £10 ($15) for the base game and for the purposes of this post, I will assume that you know all about the game and what has happened since it was put on and taken off steam and before. Now if you are patient and wait for the Arma 2 game to come on sale, you can get Arma 2 for less than £10 (50-75% off) and if it is in a pack, like it was during the Christmas sales, you could have picked up all of the Arma games (Every single one) for approximately £7.50 which is how much i saw it listed for, Have access to the Day Z mod and a free copy of the Day Z standalone when it's released (if what was said is true) for less than £9.99.

Why would anyone buy The War Z considering this information? All Arma games and the Day Z mod, a free copy of the Day Z standalone (possibly), a great community and dev's/mod's who know what they are doing and do actually care, none of the lies and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and none of the cash grab micro transaction shop for less than £9.99, since people talk about how The War Z only costs $15 if this is true, this information and the sale on steam for Arma 2 surely makes the Day Z a much more attractive offer? Otherwise I must really be missing something.

Don't quote me on the free copy of the Day Z stand alone for owners of Arma 2 via steam though, I haven't done any research yet. It's only a rumor as far as I am concerned at the minute until it is verified. But even then, Day Z and the complete Arma collection for less than £9.99 is still a staggering deal considering.

Unless you have a source for the free Day Z standalone thing there's no point in claiming it, I've heard nothing of the sort.

Not to mention, by the way, that Arma is a fantastic game on its own even without Day Z, and since I've reinstalled it(to see how DayZ was coming along, disliked it again, and stopped) I've been playing it daily now.

That's exactly why i said don't quote me in the text. I'd like to have more information on it but i have only seen 1 article about it up to now but no, I don't have a source, this is just a friend who keeps a keen eye on things as they develop with both the War Z and the Day Z.

I have only just had my 2nd Game on the Day Z this mornining and the only thing I don't like about it is the motion blur when you are low on health, i was also fortunate enough to be able to log onto a server with a population of 0 and start with an axe so even there, there are 2 advantages over the War Z that I enjoyed.

The value of the pack is exactly the point of the thread though, when people say buy the War Z cos it's only *** dollars, if you think about it, the offers you can get with Arma 2 are so much better if you are patient. It just makes me wonder why anyone would buy the War Z and then defend it too the hilt. The only reason I can see is that they are either completely loyal to the War Z and Hammerpoint, or haven't played The Day Z yet.

From what I understand DayZ is going to make the same approch as Counter-Strike when CS went retail. When CS went retail anyone who had Half-life still got access to CS for free. But for new players a affordable option was there to buy the game and I think it may have come with some extras at the time. What I heard about DayZ is that those with Arma II and OA will still have access to the game but the retail will give DayZ some graphical updates.

Perhaps the free DayZ that the OP is talking about is reallly a option to install the not special retail version much like how HL2 mods are on Steam with likely a option to turn it into retail. Though this is the first time I've heard of such.
Well, like I say, It is only what I and a friend were talking about earlier since I was asking him his opinions of Day Z when he told me what I relayed above. I will do some more research on it later but i think you might be right Nuclear, then again I may have my wires crossed, it wouldn't be the 1st time that it has happened but it sure would be nice to be right in this instance :)
