WarZ is a port of a PS3 game.
According to a post made by RussianKaliber on the Arma II forums The WarZ is a port of a game that they made for Sony in 2010.

Kewk brought this information to light in a thread on the WarZ forums.

Does anybody know what this game was?

I doubt it. There is no proof of this. Once I see the proof I'll eat my words... Literally I will print out this comment and eat it.

It doesnt mention they ever finished it or released it. Lots of ideas get a little work, some concept art, etc and go nowhere. He says "The files are dated" but doesn't say what kind of files. Photoshop? Some 3d model workups? A powerpoint proposal for the Sony execs? Who knows, there just isn't enough information there. It may never even have had a name.

Also: War Z is a port of War Inc. If you have played War Z, go play War Inc for a minute and you will see what I mean. Play them side-by-side, you will see there is barely any difference. So the development would be: mystery ps3 title -> War Inc -> War Z.

The focus of Hammerpoint / Arktos seems to be to create a game engine to be the cornerstone of their "game factory" now. (Sergey talks about this in the VentureBeat article) So I think the War Z can be viewed as a technology test for them.

Is it my imagination or do i suspect that this will be in relation to the copyright issues that they have trying to prove that they own the copyright to The War Z name and that they thought of it before The Day Z? It sound's like BS to me to be completely honest. If it is true then they will be able to shed more light on the name of the game and Sony will be able to verify this information, otherwise that might be a new scandal if they have unjustly now bought Sony into the issue without Sony's knowlege or consent.

Day Z has nothing to do with the trademark (not copyright, trademark) problem. That stems from the movie, game, and book "World War Z" - Paramount Pictures is apparently not amused with the similiarity.

Fair enough, but never the less, wouldn't you think that if a game of this magnitude was actually licensed and endorsed by Sony andl left under the development of Hammerpoint that it would recieve more press than this? Especially if it as vibrant and varied as kalliber suggests on that forum. Why is it no one seem's to be able to trace any information about this game what so ever? Kewk refused to make an official statement but Sony should be able to verify this and yet no one seem's to have any information about the game that was going to be ported which suggest's to me that if it was going to be ported in the first place, that it is an official release and fully endorsed by Sony and should be traceable via the normal method's, yet no one seems to be able to find anything and why leave it until now to mention the games existance yet give no one any details on what it was called?

I apollogize for my skepticism but once bitten twice shy, I can't take people at face value again when we already know they have lied at least once.

I made a thread on this which promptly got locked by Kewk. http://forums.playwarz.com/showthread.php?97065-PS3-open-world-zombie-game

Nah, Sony looks into developing 30 games for each 1 that actually goes to market. The way I read this: RussianKaliber was involved in doing a demo of some sort. It wouldn't have been playable, just concept material.

That said, this is the same RussianKaliber that swears the War Z screenshots are from "real" gameplay, but absolutely refuses to demonstrate even a few seconds of that super secret ultra advanced game client to put the lid on that controversy. I question his credibility.
Cadderley Jan 15, 2013 @ 3:57pm
It is the fact that no one seems to be able to find any information on this game, Not even a name for it that worries me about their credibility, yet alone the fact that Kewk also refused to make an official statement. If it was all fair and above board, even if the project was abandoned, what would be wrong with talking about it and giving some general information etc...

I don't think that dead nation is the same game. I'll have a look at the people who designed it and were responsible for publishing/developing it later. If it is the same game, some Hammerpoint names will pop up in the credits somewhere. If it was locked, that suggest's to me that they don't want people digging too deep. Has it occurred to anyone just how many locked topics there seems to be on the War Z forum? Almost every other thread seems like it has been locked, not including ones that have been deleted.

Yeah and bans as well. I believe that is why Kewk had to scale back his moderation of these forums. Steam users objected, "Al" (one of Steams community managers I believe) stepped in, and the moderation here came to be more in line with the Steam norms. I even see that Kewk's sticky list of forum rules has been replaced with a simple link to the Steam official forum rules.
Cadderley Jan 15, 2013 @ 4:11pm
Personally, i find it disturbing and disrespectful when a mod/dev comes in from another company unafilliated with the Valve Corporation or any other corporation and tries to adminster their own version of thier rules, hoping to over ride those that are already in place. It show's a complete lack of respect for the corporation and the community and a certain level of arrogance from the mod/dev who tries to do that.
Feathers Jan 15, 2013 @ 4:32pm
Yeah I've noticed that Dave. The only time you see them on the forum is Damage control or PR stuff and spin. I can't decide if they are just utterly incompetent or just don't really care.... I'm leaning towards the latter because I believe they will just disolve Hammerpoint soon and set up as a new studio keeping people like Sergey and Kewk out of the spotlight. I think that's why they are so secretivie about other devs.

I'm not sure about Dead Nation being the game either, I find it suspicious they won't confirm or deny it and it simply got locked. The Devs were Finnish for that game apparantly.. but it was listed as privatley owned. And yeah it was disgusting how kewk acted on these forums, I'm glad Vavle stepped in... but it's just sad something like that could happen in the first place, some people got permantly banned by kewk =/

Haha omg. Did anyone read RussianKalibers (RomanS) posts on the arma2 forums linked in the OP? He actually promoted the game there before anywhere else saying they would make a much better game than Dayz. And some people still belive they diddnt ripp dayz off...

The funniest part of course is his pitch for the game. Im gonna quote it here for your pleasure:

No we are not going to make it a Free To Play Game.

F that

Most likely it will be one time purchase fee for something like $15-20. Similar to Minecraft.
However there will be GOLD currency in the game that you can purchase for real $ money. With that currency you can buy attachments for weapons, different skins, different cute things, but nothing to make you "WIN" in this game. Its gona be more for "comfort" and cosmetic.

Everything that you will be able to buy in the store will be scattered and placed around in the WORLD. You just have to find it And I mean everything. But we wont let people who are spoiled rich or well off in real life purchase Hummer with a 50 cal and 5 HK 417s with top of the line scopes. NOPE, not gona happen. You must find it first to even see it in the Merchant Store.

Merchant stores and safe zones will be placed through out the world, very similar to Fallout 3. There will be towns in which there will be Walled Off Districts for players to rest, sleep, take a bath, buy a meal, restock their supplies for their next adventure. Flirt or have *** with others or check message boards and postings. Most likely even pick up a job/quest by a real person. The guns will not be allowed in those zones to avoid chaos and mayhem. But be careful when you exit out of the Safe Zone. There will be players who will turn barbarians or raiders. Everyone will be free to make their own faction or a clan too.

Another thing we are going to give players is the chance to earn their own Gold (Real money currency). There will be special types of zombies roaming through the world at very special places, and only at night. If you kill them, you can get their Brain Stem Cells, and trade that at the nearest merchant, trading post, city, for REAL GOLD. So players will have the chance to go and get those Stem Cells and make real money. Those zombies wont be a joke to deal with though, so you will have to pack military gear to fight them, or work together with a friend.

Should I start a whole new thread about this to start gathering your guy's requests/ideas ?

-Every item in the store can be found in the world AND they only appear in store after you find them

-Flirt and jump in bed with other players

-Earn real money by finding stem cells

Christ...
