The War Z - A Survival Guide

New players in The War Z start off with only the most basic of items; a flashlight and some supplies. These things will most likely last you a very short amount of time before you die slow cold and alone on the side of the road. So I have decided to write this guide to help new players get on their feet and stay there.

Part 1: Starting out.

Most initial player spawns seem to be located in the middle north or south east areas of the map. As a rule, new players should avoid large towns as your starting flashlight is not good enough to allow you to fight the large numbers of zombies in these locations.

If you spawn in the middle or east northern areas your best bet is to go to the Springer Ridge Trailer Park in the North east corner of the map. You can always find supplies there, and I have never personally found any zombies there. In the woods just west of the campsite to the south of the trailer park you can find a crashed Blackhawk helicopter that sometimes contains a weapon.

Part 2: First Combat

You won't be able to run forever and eventually you'll have to fight the wandering undead. Personally I always fight in third person as I find it gives superior awareness of your surroundings. As a rule always aim for the head, even though there may not be a visual distinction made by the game, it does massive damage and can even let you kill zombies in just a few hits with your flashlight.

Finding a gun might tempt you into just using all your ammo on a single group of zombies, however doing this will most likely attract more zombies to you, in addition the sound of gunshots will also attract nearby players.

When using guns always be aware of your surroundings and always use the single fire mode if possible. If you hear gunshots, try to move away from that area quickly, because it is more than likely a bandit player who will kill you and take anything you have.

Part 3: Night

As a rule, I avoid traveling at night since the flashlight gives away your position to nearby players, and fails to give good warning of nearby zombies, however the flashlight will not attract zombies more than your normal walk/crouch/crawl movement would. My advice would be to find a safe area before sunset and then log off once night falls.

Part 4: "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal."

I've often seen players in the global chat asking if anybody wants to team up. This is always a bad idea, the size of the map and travel times involved will almost always make traveling to another player's location all but impossible. Even if they are close, more often than not, they will most likely be trying to kill you. Partnerships between players are not impossible, however your best bet is to team up with someone you know outside of the game, the only problem you might run into is that supplies can be very limited when split into groups of three or more, however, if the group is trusting of the others in it, this can still work.

Part 5: Stealth and Sneaking

As of the writing of this guide, the zombies in The War Z can detect players in two ways, sight and sound. The most common way you will be detected will be through sight, but crouching and going prone make you a much less visible target, and you can sneak almost anywhere with patience and good sense. Sprinting should only be used in emergencies, as it attracts zombies in a large area, and your limited stamina might not be able to get you clear of the threat before running out. I suggest finding a single zombie and testing the detection ranges yourself.

Part 6: Death and Revival

You will die in this game, be it from zombies or players, it is inevitable. when you die, all of your items are dropped from your character and placed in the game world. At this point you have a choice, delete your character and start fresh, or wait an hour and revive your old character. Deletion is a valid tactic as it gets you back into the game quickly, however while you may start the game with some items initially, after a certain number of times doing this, the game will spawn ALL of your characters into the world with nothing at all. For this reason I would suggest reviving your character, since you respawn in the same general area you died in, allowing you to more or less continue your journey.

When spawing with nothing, stealth is your ONLY option, however, since you have nothing, you also have nothing to lose, so keep that in mind.

Part 7: Final Tips

-Try to find servers with fewer players on them.

-Avoid settled areas like towns, resorts and cities; they are always swarmed with zombies or bandit players. The Norad Base is especially bad, however you can almost always find guns here.

-Stealth works when you use it right, experiment with it to get it to work best for you.

-Respect other players, use the proximity chat to tell players you mean them no harm. Players may also tell you to stay away from their area, it's usually a good idea to heed their warning.

-Keep an eye on the chat box, players who have been killed by bandits will often post their locations here.

Nine hours ago I started this topic to try and help players who, like me, are stuck with a $13 game that can't really be called finished. Despite this, some of us have decided to over look all the crap the devs did, the lack of polish and everything else that's wrong with this game and have some fun with it. Knowing how hard this game can be, I decided to make a short guide to try and help players who were having trouble with this game. Now, I've read every single comment in this thread so far, and only ONE PERSON even bothered to comment on the content of the guide, everybody else has just been ♥♥♥♥♥ing and moaning about things that have already been fixed. You all wanted it removed from Steam, it was; you all wanted a refund, you got one. Some of us decided to keep this game and have fun with it, if you really hate it that much then you should have taken advantage of the refund offer, otherwise you can shut the ♥♥♥♥ up, and get the ♥♥♥♥ out of my thread. There are a thousand and one other topics to complain in without dragging this one into it.

and it goes way beyond the plagiarized art, its also questionable audio, recycled resources and textures, the stolen terms of service, suspended trademarks, zero ingame anticheat while also charging real money for items yet you lose them permanently when you get ganked by a hacker, etc, etc ,etc....

not to mention the review scores on all the major gaming sites like pc gamer and metacritic and many others, the major media exposures by outlets such as BBC, Forbes, etc.,,,and the investigations by the BBB and FTC.

the game is so unsecure taht even an emulator is freely available online, as well as rampant free distribution of hacks and cheats.

the list of proof against this developer is looooong. I could go on and give proven examples for a long long time.

Beware buyers !.... seriously, dont fall for the misleading marketing of this money grab scam.

Those guys are INSANELLY biased, if you dont WANT to like the game, you wont like it. Just look at TB for a example, its ridiculous how bad he is at the game, you should know how to play it if you are about to do a review. Just watch Markeedragon when he plays, he have over 60 videos thats 30+ mins long, and all are exciting.

You are probably very young, thats why you link those stupid stupid hilarious videos from Rhino and TB. Btw i love Rhino and TB but those videos are waaaay to biased.

And dont even comment on my spelling, i am Swedish, and every time i blaze someone on this stupid forums, they only start to complain at my grammar instead of making some sense.

Buyers remorse? hahaha!

The thing is, there are thousands of players who love play WarZ, this is our forums, and we dont want you and youre website spammed here in all the topics all day long.

Are you on Trolling in the Call of duty forums all day? That game my friend, is the biggest ripoff on the gaming market just now. But noone is on there complaining, are they? They used the same Engine for years and just release new maps and call it a new game and charge 50 bucks for it.

You have NO CLUE how the gaming industry works these days my friend. You are probablly to young to understand this.
