Steam says the servers are down
This is an unusual step. Is it permanent? Or going to be a long term thing? i.e. months? Whats going on with this?

I dont actually own the game but follow the game in the hope that one day they make some basic tweaks to improve the gameplay (like FF off servers and more items in game world)

Agreed, friendly fire needs to be purely optional. I have ended up whacking my friends in the face so many times with a pickaxe... I am now a thug... Not a happy thug either. A very sad thug... All runnin around priding myself on not team killing, then BOOM! There goes one of my buddies, buckshot allllll over his face.. Then there goes the other one, pickaxe to the eye...

lol I cannot help but laugh at it though.

By the way, I just checked and the server status for War Z is marked as "Online". (From the launcher itself, not Steam.)

With all the hacking that's been going on, we aren't really sure if its a typical hotfix, or hackers are altering the server or anything. Hammerpoint is known for their great communication with players (sarcasim fyi they don't tell us ♥♥♥♥). Now would be a really crappy time to buy the game. Anyone considering purchasing this should not, I regret spending the twenty bucks. Try the DayZ standalone when that comes out, and if that sucks then State Of Decay looks like it will be pretty badass.

If hacking is bothering you this much, unplug your ethernet cable right now. Send your modem back to the isp, and sell your router to a neighbor. Then get rid of the pc, and any console you may have. Ditch your cell phone because those get hacked a lot too. Or have you not noticed the leaked photos of celebs and such on the internet from phones that got HACKED?

Seriously, it is the internet, things get hacked. Every single day. Hell, Anonymous just hacked a government propeganda site and twitter account belonging to the North Korean government. If that is not proof that ANYTHING can be hacked, then I must not have been doing network security since I was 12.

If a user is stupid enough to use the same password for a game account, that they use for the email account tied to that game, then they should probably get hacked at least once to learn the lesson. As for the rest of the concern about the hack on War Z's pages and such, NO CC info was compromised, for that to happen the attackers would have to attack Steam and whatever other 3rd party is involved in the GC transactions. And I am pretty sure we would have been alerted to that right away if Steam had been compromised in that manor. As it is, you should never ever store your CC info on a remote location. Doing that is asking for a reaming.

Welcome to the world of the internet and computers. It is hackable, it is crackable, it is exploitable, and foulable. It has always been, and always will be. Even once we get a solid grip on quantum computing, it will still be an issue.

Here is a pro-tip. Security through obscurity. It works. Change your passwords, never use the same one for EVERYTHING. And for the love of god, do not store your CC info in remote locations.
