Still stuck with this game, what am i doing wrong
Ok so i have seen a few lets play vids on this game on youtube and it looks like the strategy is too face mobs higher level then you, but i find this is instant death, so how am i supposed too accomplish this? For instance the dungeon i was just in, all i could face was level 2 mobs and i was level 1 and i could only heal so much, because everywhere i went resulted in either a dead end or no level 1 mobs too kill, so i had no choice but die, this has happened a few times, was it just bad luck? Also even if you find the boss early in the stage of a game, why does he always block the entrance out? Because i am trying too do some dungeons and exit out once i have a bit of gold in the hopes i can save it and upgrade some stuff in town, but find it virtually impossible. But what really frustrates me in game, is you uncover a lot of the map before you even run into a mob, which basically eliminates resources, because you need the black spaces to heal and or regain mana, but you cant really if all your doing is running into blackness, but never running into mobs too help you out.

So my question is, am i just getting super unlucky, or is there a strategy i am somehow missing here, any hints would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

About the boss blocking the way out, the spot where you start has a signboard where you can quit the dungeon or you can always go to Menu and choose surrender (granted quitting without beating the boss will make you lose some gold but it's still better than just dying).

Beating higher level mobs is one of the core strategies of the game, beating guys 1 level higher than you shouldn't be too difficult, you need to make use of whatever you have: glyphs, items (prepped or bought), regen fighting, mid-fight levelups, etc. Just a simple example, sometimes all you need to do is hit once, fireball, regen, fireball, hit to kill, etc. Or sometimes, casting Getindare to allow you to put in 1 last strike will do the job ...

What are the dungeons that you are facing problems with? Sometimes, you just get stuck with higher level enemies but that only happens with a few specific dungeons or sometimes, it's just down to luck. Most of the time for all the remaining dungeons, there shouldn't be this problem.

How far have you reached in the game? Do you have access to the Witch potions, Apothecary, Gods? As you unlock more of these, and discover more items in the game, you will be able to prep them or find them in shops and especially the use of Gods really makes the game much easier if you are doing it right.

Also, depending on your familiarity and skill with the game, sometimes it is better to not overdo the exploration part before you start taking on the first enemy. In general, once you find at least 1 useful rune, or when you have uncovered about 1 quarter of the map, you should really start to take on the first enemy which you find the most manageable. Of course for the harder dungeons, and depending on your skill and how confident you are, it is entirely possible to win even when you take on enemies very late.

Yup, which dungeons are you having problems with? Different dungeons have different situational rules to them, in general the only dungeon that should give you problems finding monsters or blocking you off regularly is Grimm's Grotto as it uses a much older monster placement algorithm from before we made it a lot smarter and more fair.

Some dungeons have specific boss events that remove the starting stairs, as another example, but it's not a general thing that happens in every dungeon - and if it does happen, it should be obvious from the boss interaction.

Den of Danger (i think its called) and and Venture Cave, trying too do the "What's a Money Bin" I noticed in venture cave, the boss does not close the exit, but another problem arrises, I am doing the quest too open up vault level 2, i beleive that gives your gold max amount of 4K? I have actually beaten it it twice now, but have not gotten credit for the quest. What exactly do i have too do to get credit for the quest?. Also is Hobblers Hold the only easy map? As all maps around it say normal. As for running into any gods, i do not have gods yet, so how do i get them? I have played the free flash game on the main website, i think the version was when this game was in alpha or something like that (cant remember) but it was a free download and i remember in that game, you had gods right away, so how do i get them in this game?

I am not sure about the bank quest part, are you sure you have fulfilled what the quest requires you to do? I checked the wiki, it says defeat Venture Cave with Unstoppable (so you need to make sure to kill all enemies and not use Imawall on level 8 or higher enemies).

Yes, Hobbler's Hold is the only easy map and it is for beginners to familiarize with the game. As for gods, I am not sure when you can start discovering them but I think you need to open up more dungeons on the map first, just progress into the game a little further and you should start to see the subdungeons where you need to "solve" them to gain access to particular gods.

so thats my problem then, not defeating all the mobs, which is just going too make that stage that much more difficult, because when i get too boss, i just have enough resources just too kill him, if i try too kill all mobs on level, i would run out of all resources too kill mob.

So focus on getting more efficient ;)

Don't waste resources killing enemies that don't need to be killed at the same level as you - wait till you're more powerful than them and can kill them easily. So you need to work on getting as much bonus experience as possible to level up faster.

Practice killing enemies that are 1 level higher than you, if you have prepped the Fine Sword, this should be much easier. Try not to be wasteful about blackspace, if you need just 3 tiles to regen to full health, don't reveal more than 3 tiles if you can.

When you are about to level up, see if you can squeeze out a bit more. If you can 1-hit a lower level enemy to level up, then find an enemy 2 levels above you. If you can take a hit from it without dying, just make sure you have enough health and/or mana, go hit him once and unload all your available glyphs, be it fireball or pisorf on him. Then, kill the lower level enemy to level up and you are in a good position to continue on this guy which is now 1 level higher than you and which you have already taken off a good chunk of health.

Also, are you absolutely familiar with glyphs and how to use them? Fireball will leave a burn stack that reduces enemy regen by 1, use Weytwhut ot Wonafyt to make good use of your mana when you are doing early discovering of the map.

Do the same when you are taking on the boss, prepare yourself for a situation where you can level up once (or even 2 times) by killing off lower level enemies. You can "prepare" them early especially if you have Wonafyt or Weytwhut so that you can get more experience out of them.
Leave your potions only to the end when you can't level up any more.

Killing all enemies isn't that hard, if you are doing the above, usually you are only left with a few high level enemies after defeating the boss. With some blackspace and glyphs and possibly some potions left (it is entirely possible to not use potions at all), you should be able to finish them off after the boss.

Hope this helps, :) Just practice more.

you're welcome, :)

As a fan of this game, I really hope that more people can get more enjoyment out of it and not be discouraged from early setbacks.

I really like the game too, but the difficulty ramps up early and doesnt let go lol.

Just out of curiousity, which class/race is best for killing a mob 1-2 levels higher than you?
~'(^ + ^)'~ Aug 4 @ 10:39am
There is no "best", but there are quite a few classes that are slightly better than others especially if you are going for higher level enemies at the start.

Sorcerer is 1 of them, you have 5 more mana so with 15 mana, you can do the 1 hit, 2 fireballs, then Getindare for 1 more hit. Sorcerer also has the "magic retaliation" (forgot what it is called), that if an enemy hits you, you return magic damage equal to your level. It also has healing 1 hp for each 2 mana spent, so this takes it even further such that you can hit, and then fireball to deal damage and heal up (a little, but it counts especially when your level is low), and continue.

There are other classes which are good at lower levels too (especially when you want to take on higher level enemies) but I don't think you have access to them yet.

As for race, it's entirely up to you and your play style, Orc is good cos you can convert off glyphs that you don't think you will be using to increase your base damage (and this helps a lot at low levels). What races do you have access to? You might want to use Halfling or Gnome so that you can get more potions but then again, you shouldn't be using potions right from the start. I would say the race doesn't matter that much at this early stage of the game which you are at.

I have dwarf, halfling, elf, gnome and human, i have figher, priest, thief and wizard for my classes. I dont know if it was just sheer dumb luck or what, but i finally beat the quest too get level 2 bank, I had 5 heal pots, 7 mana pots and i had 2 level 9's too beat and the level 10. i ran out of mana pots, but still had health pots too spare when i defeated the last of the mobs. :) Too finally win the stage i used a human thief.

Cool .... play the game more, once you unlock more stuff (gods, potions, scrolls, items, classes, races, ...) and get more used to the finer details of the game mechanics, you will really find it a blast to play the game and see yourself improving as you progress.

I am sure you will get there, Have fun! :)

I think the class/race is less of an issue when it comes to exp farming, than the preparations are.
If you have, for example, a fine sword in the locker, it will make the early game a lot easier.
