Mouse & Keyboard Support
Just wanted to let everyone know that this is being worked on now and give you an update on what we're doing here. We've been so focused on other things that we completely dropped the ball on KB+M support. We've still got a lot of PlayStation blood running through our veins, it seems...

This is what is being worked on today!

- Add mouse collision detection to places like the main menu, dialogue boxes, pause menu, etc.

- Updating the key-mapping for KB+M to reflect current gameplay. Most of the current key-mapping is old, hence the lack of some abilities via KB+M.

- Creating in-game KB+M guide

- Support for the case that the controller is removed, the KB+M will become the default control scheme in single player scenario

- Redesign top menu for instances where the isn't a controller (for example, disabling 2P until a controller is plugged in.)

- Add menu options for switching between KB+M and controller controls

We'll be pushing through this today. Hopefully we'll have an update ready tonight. In the mean time, #SWAGnacious has assembled a guide of sorts for the current KB+M controls.

I'd say take it easy, my biggest concern is that you will just rush KB+M and it won't feel as good as it possibly could be.

Rather I wait a bit longer and eventually get to play a game that actually is desinged for KB+M as well than playing a game that merely tolerates it...

Well, nothing will be set in stone just yet. We'll implement a control scheme and then collect feedback from the community about what we can do to improve it.

The tooltips in the tutorial stage are all reflecting controller inputs, and I can't figure out which key on the keyboard does what, since as you said there's no in-game KB+M guide (assuming this is what you meant with that).

There is one. Press F1 (or F2, I'm not sure).

I hope you will add fully configurable keyboard controls to the game.
You cannot simply replace Control inputs with KB+M scheme... It feels really clumsy and slow and it is painfully clear this game was designed with a controller in mind. It has impacted the gameplay and I find that weird for a game that is supposed to be a PC game first.

I really like the idea and some elements of the gameplay, but frankly it's pretty much unplayable for me. It feels like a game you should play on your couch in front of a big screen and just relax a little bit, doing silly stuff. And thus so far it doesn't work for me sitting behind my computer with clumsy KB+M controls trying to enjoy the game.

Bug report: If you are holding an item then [tab] to open shop and L click to choose what to build, you will throw the item.

Keyboard and mouse controls are a work in progress, so we appreciate everyone's feedback. Even though NNG is being developed for the PC, most of our experience is in developing for consoles. With NNG, we've been tuning controls to be compatible with as many platforms as possible (other consoles, etc). It's a little easier to start from there and go to the kb+m than the reverse.

But as I said, this is a work in progress. Eventually we'd like allow the player to map their own controls for kb+m play.

I might be doing it wrong, but I can't seem to get building maintenance to pop up with the keyboard. I use the Q+W or S combos, but no thing seems to happen. I assume this will let me repair buildings, but so far I haven't been able to do it.

Other than that, the d-pad icon still pops up sometimes, but everything seems to be working okay now =P

i've been looking forward to this game for a while. it slipped though my radar here because i thought the name of the game was "pixeljunk inc" when i watched a dev preview of it some time last year. (i prefer the old name btw. might i be so bold as to say it would sell more copies if it had a better name than nomnom...)

glad i read this thread. i was about to buy the game on the spot. silly me always presuming steam games will work with mouse and keyboard... i refuse to play games with a controller. i mean i used a controller to play 2d games back in the day, but now i can't go back to the controller. this isn't 1996. i'm not 13 years old any more. i've been a MKB user since consoles went 3d (nintendo 64). i can't stand 3d console games. too many memories of bad experiences with garbage games with garbage controls and garbage 3rd person camera restrictions. so i'm to the point i won't even deal with a game if it requires a controller, even if it is a 2d game. sorry.

i'll wait for full KBM support before i add to cart. good luck with the game. it looked like a fun strategy game when i watched a dev video of it last year.

Hi Discoroo,

In the latest build you should be able to access the building maintenace menu by holding down "Q". While holding "Q", press "S" to destroy a building and "W" to repair it.

Hi -shhfiftyfive,

Thanks for the interest! I understand how you feel. To this day I'd much rather play a FPS with my trusty keyboard and mouse. Keyboard and mouse support was the first thing we added after launch, so everything should be working now (barring the off bug, here and there). Like controller support, it's something that we'll be improving with your feedback, but at the moment the game is completely playable with KB+M.
Some suggestions for further KB+M support.

1. Allows for space to skip through dialog, instead of forcing to click the red triangle.
2. Tutorial mentions stick, instead of which mouse button to press for chainsaw.
3. Allow for exit to escape out of menu's.

Also I didn't get what the C and V icons indicated.

Thanks, Skrymir. Those are great suggestions and we should be able to get them in shortly.

In addition, when playing with a keyboard and mouse all of the tips coming up should not be referencing the controller buttons to press for things. They should be saying the keyboard equivalent. If the user presses the buttons being specified, such as Y, then nothing actually happens.
