Giant Saucer Boss Help
Hey folks,

New to this game, just trying it out tonight... and then this giant saucer boss thing showed up and blocked all my rockets (in the tutorial planet). Couldn't figure out how to make it go away, which was a huge bummer since I was playing the tutorial menu and it didn't give me any hints.

Can anyone give me any advice? Thanks!

Does your saucer make it impossible to launch rockets? This was happening to me. I built a ladder going all the way up to the saucer then used my cutter to "attack" it. I was able to successfully launch rockets after that. I don't know if that was a glitch. I also don't know if the saucer can be destroyed with a cutter. It was taking too long to die so I quit my game. I reloaded that save later on only to have the game crash on trying to load it. Had to reset the planet.

I tried shooting it for a while with the shotgun - that didnt seem to do anything. launching rockets at it doesnt seem to affect it either. besides moving my soup rockets i dont know what else to do...

I also built a ladder up to the saucer and worked at it with the grinder, but it didn't seem to have any effect. I also tried jumping on top of the saucer to look for a weak point up there, but you can't stand on top of it without taking damage so that didn't last long.

The frustrating thing was that this happened on the tutorial level on my first time playing, and the game didn't offer any hints as to what I needed to do.

The blog post referenced a sacrifice... the saucer doesn't seem to take any damage, and can't send anything up there besides soup, so the only thing I can think of is sending up X cans of soup or a specific kind of soup? Haven't hit upon anything that works yet.

What's more frustrating is the screen focus issues in co-op. It makes it near impossible to do anything while under the saucer.

Right. In co-op, once the saucer appears, I have to quit playing.

Someone should try throwing the saucer a can of soup. Maybe the deliciousness will cause them to leave us to our work.

If you're up near the saucer when one of your rockets goes up, you see it go directly into the middle, so it's sucking it in, not just exploding it. So I've already sent it a bunch of soup to no avail :)

Oh. I see. Someone should try sending Charlie and Charles up there.

But it has that little effect in the middle when i shoot it with a shotgun too. so i dont think that it's sucking the soup in.

I'm thinking the point of the saucer is to force you to rebuild your rocket silos outside of its shadow. But we're still fairly early in to development, so it could be that the saucer is going to have more to it soon or be removed entirely.

Tried doing stuff like building platforms close enough to it for shot tower/mission/arthur to get at it, but it doesn't trigger anything.

You may be right, Geldon.

Man, I was kind of hoping someone from the Dev team would be able to chime in and give us a hint as to how to deal with the Saucer Boss. If we can't currently make it go away that would be good to know, too, because I will know to just quit the game when trying to play Co-Op and it shows up, because the camera issues are extremely difficult to work around.

Sorry for the late appearance everyone, we just got back from PAX and are catching up on a lot of questions, comments, and feedback from everyone.

The Passive-Aggressive Pestilence Platform can be quite a challenge, and I see a few of you, stephilu in particular, are on the right path to getting rid of it!

You've got to smash a certain amount of soup rockets into it to get it to buzz off. Add the cost of one pair of Charlie and Charles and one Shot Tower, and divide by the cost of a Girder for the answer.

Geldon is also right, in that this is our first attempt at a large scale enemy, and we definitely plan to improve it (or possibly even junk it) based on everyone's feedback. In particular, we became painfully aware of the co-op camera issues, and will take care of that as soon as possible as well.

* yes, after smashing some rockets in it PAPP went away :)

PAPP! We should make that the official name!
