Want to try the game in coop

I don't even know hwo to properly play this game, let alone co-op xD. I got it in a bundle stars a day ago. Bought the bundle for black sea odyssey. Stayed for plantera/this.

I completed 4-5planets in conquest already. The problem is if you are alone you have no time for anything except making soup and expanding a little every day.
There were maps with hidden stash, but the most of the time I couldnt even find them because the competitor soup company almost beat me while I was exploring.

Could you let me know if MP actually works if you do try it out? I've heard it has sync issues but nobody has played it recently that I know of.
