Worth buying this if I already own the gold version from a different site (DLgamer?)
I haven't played Sacred 2 in a long time, and I seem to remember having a hell of a time getting it installed and running on Windows 7, back when I originally bought the gold version from DLgamer. I also seem to remember them restricting the number of times you could "activate" the game, or something like that (which seems like total BS to me.)

That said, would it be a better idea to just buy it again through steam, now that they apparently got some of the compatibility kinks worked out? I'd really rather not buy it again (as I'd be buying a copy for my friend too), but I don't know if I feel like going through all the s*** with DLgamer again.

Any of you play the game using a non-steam gold version?

I had the same trouble as you, and a lot of people. My IT-Wiz husband tried everything to make it work , but Nooo - it never did. When I noticed Steam had the game, I bought it because I hoped my beloved game would finally work (played it on PS3) , and I would finally be able to play it with the Ice&Blood expansion- And it was cheap enough, so I could afford for it to go bad again.
For me , the Steam version works wonderful ! :)

Hey, thanks for the input Talana :). Yeah, I'm reluctant to buy it because it's just... damn, I already bought it once!!! Arrg! But at the same time, being able to install it and get it running easily would almost make the cost worth it. I was hoping it might go down a little more in price in the coming days, as I'll be buying a copy for myself and a friend. This might be the cheapest it's going to get though.

Guess I'll have to do some thinking about it. In any case, thanks again for the comment. If you and your husband are ever up for some co-op, maybe we could all group up via Tunngle or something, down the road :).

By the way, how are you liking BG:Enhanced Edition? I'm planning to pick that up myself in the next few days.

I'm in the same spot as you. I bought the full version at release, even though i knew my pc wouldn't be able to handle it well. And it didn't :) Then i had a new PC, but the game still kept crashing every 5 mins. I spent hour and hours trying to fix it, but to no avail. So then i bought a new graphics card and it STILL didn't help. And after a while i got Windows 7 and for a lot of people that gave problems, but finally i could get the game working. Played a long while, but when i wanted to install it again last year, it didn't work. So now i'm thinking to get it again. Also make sure to install the community patch if you intend to buy it!

Securom got removed from the Game,so aside from Steam there is no other DRM present in the Version you can buy here.

So far,the game crashed once on me in 42 Hours of playing, pretty stable i guess. It also worked "out of the box" on different machines with Win7

The game might become cheaper, as Sacred 3 is coming soon. As for multiplayer, they say it is only possible in LAN now, as for some servers being shut down at DS. But they will hopefully fix it. It would be fun to at least be able to trade stuff !!
BG enhanced runs smoothly , have some cool new character classes , and looks beautiful :)
I have tried it out all day , and so far I love what they have done to it :)

Thanks for the info King_Kosher; I'm glad to hear this version is more or less free of that kind of BS.

And about the multiplayer, yeah, I read about the server closures back when they happened, but luckily, thanks to gaming vpn programs like Tunngle, you can "LAN" with anyone that also has the program set up--regardless of where they are in the world. Thanks to programs like that, we can continue playing online with our friends, regardless of the company choosing to close down their official servers. I plan to try it out on Tunngle as soon as I get it going again.

If you haven't bought it yet, you can get the Dead Silver bundle for $4, which includes this game from here: www.humblebundle.com. It gives you steam keys.

I like your way of thinking, really.

For this to continue, dev's need to be poked with a stick to include a simple LAN function into their MP Games.

I got this first for 360, put a ton of time into it and loved it. Later I found a collector's edition for PC going cheap so got back into it on that, though do remember the "fun" of researching the order of patches to apply to get it working properly.

For the sake of a few $ I was more than happy to pick up the bundle to get Steam keys since it also includes the expansion pack - which if my memory serves me right, was never officially released outside of Europe due to Ascaron going bust at about the time it launched.

Sad to see the official servers have gone - would be awesome if steam could host a few, but from other threads it looks like there are alternative ways to play online.
