The game itself is awesome. It's Torchlight on steroids, actually better. As for online, there are no servers, as far as I know.

I guess it would be fun online but I have only played single player and I love it. Over 70 hours in it so far. I bought the game during the last sale. Got 10 hours in the original Scared as well.

There is a way to play online.
Havent done so myself....but there are threads with a link that makes it possible.
Have a look at some earlier threads. Search 'online' etc.
There is something.
Also ask over at Darkmatters the S2 forum.

If you want an aRPG with MMO-like dimensions that is enjoyable alone or with a handfull of friends/strangers,go for it.It is a hidden gem.

The Online servers are down since the Studio behind it got shut down but if you use Tunngle you can easily play on community hosted servers OR set up your own Server/Game for friends

It's definitely a good buy. While there are no online servers, you can easily play LAN style via Tunngle or Hamachi. Get to know folks here in the community and ask around for some people to play with.

the tunngle method is nice but don't have cheat-protection... like before (no closed-net). They closed the servers for sacred 3. I think that steam version is good for people who can't wait for 3 and want to play 2 till then.
But if you like exploring, looting and leveling, leveling, leveling, you should try sacred 2.
