About multiplayer... or the absence of it.
The multiplayer servers were closed by Ascaron in 2010. This is now a SINGLE PLAYER only game...

You can play LAN over Tunngle or Hamachi.
Just get some friends and you're good to go

Tunngle has some banner ads in the client, but otherwise is Free, so while no official support for multiplayer anymore, you can still use third-party programs to play with others.
