Sacred 2 Gold

Sacred 2 Gold

Memorable loot or random trash?
I was gonna buy this since the reviews are great overall but first I would like to ask whether the game has memorable and interesting loot.
What I disliked about Torchlight 2 for example, was the lack of interesting items. Everything I ever found in that game was just randomly generated trash that was only slightly better than what I had previously so it didn't really have any impact on the game whatsoever.
Is this game different?

There are memorable loot. There are 5-6 item sets for every class, there are legendary items like Ancrid's Blade, Boneslicer, Ker's Scepter etc.

Also, there are seasonal items like Easter Items for summer and Christmas sets for winter.

Sounds interesting...Do you get those set items/legendary items from dungeons? Like specific bosses drop specific items maybe? Because another thing I really didn't like about torchlight 2 was the way you could go through several difficult dungeons without getting a single useful item and then kill a rabbit out in the fields and get a legendary from him which I found incredibly silly. (I kinda exaggerate but you get the point).
Funnily enough, for me one of the only games that got the loot part right was Terraria. Pretty much every weapon or accessory feels different and is useful in different situations, armors have unique effects on them instead of your usual +10 strength, +10 intelligence etc. And you know where to go and what you need to kill if you want those items. You want a vilethorn? Then go kill eater of worlds. Fancy a chlorophyte armor? Well the ore you need grows in the jungle, go mine it! That's what I really liked about it and I have yet to find similar mechanics in another game.
All that randomly generated garbage you usually get in hack and slash RPG's is very unappealing to me, but I like the combat and questing and all that other stuff so that's why I was asking about loot ^^.

You can get legendaries/set items from regular mobs, quests, dungeons, champions, main quests, bosses etc. They have a drop chance from everything.

Also, there is a skill called "Enhanced Perception", it increases your chance to drop higher quality items.

There is a chain quest for Boneslicer (a legendary item).

Also, there is an interesting mechanic about Sacred 2;

-Survival Bonus: Your survival bonus will increase, if you stay alive during combats. So you will face higher level enemies.

I took some screenshots from my current HC character;

I didn't play Torchlight, but I can compare Sacred 2 and Diablo 3 to eachother;

Boss Fights: Diablo 3 > Sacred 2
Champions: Diablo 3 > Sacred 2
Items: Sacred 2 > Diablo 3
Character Customization: Sacred 2 > Diablo 3
Combat Mechanics: Diablo 3 > Sacred 2
Lore: Diablo 3 > Sacred 2
World: Sacred 2 > Diablo 3
Difficulty: Diablo 3's late game > Sacred 2's late game
Game mechanics: Sacred 2 > Diablo 3
Quests: Sacred 2 > Diablo 3
Points of Interests, Hidden Stuff, Easter Eggs: Sacred 2 > Diablo 3

Sacred 2 has some kind of memory leak issue and it crashes once in every hour, but I like S2. That's why I am still playing it. However D3 is a better game, imo.

I'd honestly say Sacred 2's loot isn't super memorable on any regular basis. It's pretty comperable to Diablo 3 in most respects, though, post loot2.0 Diablo 3 trumps it on interesting gear with the ridiculou variety of special effects.

Sacred 2 is more about your characters' progression through levels and skill allocation as well as pushing those skills further with gear. Where Diablo 3 is a complete focus on gear with no permanency of build, Sacred 2 is a complete focus on build with very little emphasis on loot by comparison.

Sacred 2 also has all of the instability issues, I highly recommend you look into the community patch if you play. It solves a lot of issues, but the game still has its problems, it was never really finished unfortunately.

And if you're on the fence, just wishlist it it'll be on sale at some point. Here's a sale history:

The last one was clear down to 3.99, next one is apt to be similar I'm sure.
The loot isn't very memorable on a regular basis by default. However, you can change the frequency that legendaries, uniques, and set items drop by altering the drop scripts.
Loot isnt memorable, but that is because it doesnt define you.

If you played D3 you'll know that every lategame build is made possible (or at least viable) only by specific legendaries, and there is one best set for each class, 1 or 2 that are usable but inferior, and only trash otherwise.
Not so in Sacred. Items are necessary, but they support your build rather than making it, and it can sometimes be made up for with skills (my Seraphim, for example, doesn't give a damn about weapons because my BeeEffGee, that is summoned from a buff, is superior even to legendaries).

So, I think the lack of memorable Loot is actually a GOOD thing.
