There are a few threads here detailing the steps to try. I found the best luck with following *all* the steps. In particular, I uninstalled Physx and reinstalled from the latest redistributable (but make sure it is turned *off* in the game), updated my video drivers, am booting using the -skipopenal parameter, using XP SP3 compatibility switches, not launching through steam. Etc. And it's ... mostly stable. I think most of the instability is from either PhysX or the audio drivers. I have a lot of trouble (with various games) from my stupid Creative X-Fi card. They haven't made a rock solid sound card since the 90s. But I digress.
I don't know why I put up with all this annoyance to launch the game...it's just that it's reallly a good game. I like it...it's sillly and addictive. I really really wish it was more stable.
I really wish I thought Sacred 3 was going to be a good game. :(
